Hi, my name is Bertie1960!

If Benefits are there to stop people being left out or suffering hardship.
Is it ok to feel Content with my Lott in life?
Is it Ok to be happy and have a laugh and not feel as if I shouldn't be here or be free to do anything.
Is it ok to buy things nice or "spoil myself"
Ever again ?

Welcome to Scope Bertie!
It is perfectly fine to feel content with your life, experience happiness, have fun, and treat yourself well. I receive PIP and spend it on things that benefit myself, with no guilt about enjoying or spoiling myself with the money, after all, that's what it's for, to improve my quality and standard of living. I strongly believe everyone should live their life on their own terms, free from judgment or unnecessary guilt.

Thank you,
let's hope that that sentiment Grows amongst those who consider that the disabled should be Sad, Excluded from Pleasure and Financially Punished.

The negative disability narratives in the press and news are deeply upsetting and distressing for many of our members, and I completely understand why. It’s hurtful and dehumanising. Personally, I view this rhetoric as rooted in stereotypes and ignorance, though that doesn’t make it any less harmful.
Those who spread these negative portrayals of disabled and sick people often seem to treat it as a sport, sensationalising our lives for clicks or political gain. It’s truly disappointing, especially when talking about an already marginalised group of people. I choose to live unapologetically, refusing to let their words define me, and I encourage others to do the same.

It's a thing that we all may have, a feeling of guilt, when so many in the world are suffering.
Why should I feel Content ? Whatever my circumstances.
I alter my expectations, desire and 'reward system' to reflect my reality, that way I'm always a winner. On benefits with Mental and Physical Disabilities.
I just need to reject Inflicted Guilt.
