    Hi,

If you have under £16,000 now then you can apply for Universal Credit.

If you still have over £6000 then they will likely ask to see bank statements, and there is no limit on far they can go back with those. The reason for this is to stop people giving away all of their money and then applying for UC afterwards. So it is not true that they can't ask about past savings. However, as long as you've spent the money is an acceptable way then it shouldn't stop you claiming UC now.

As you have well under £6000 in the account now, they won't usually ask for any statements when opening the new claim, so you don't need to tell them about any previous savings in this case.

You may still be reviewed at any time, and they generally ask for 4 months worth of statements when reviewed. If you have had less than £6000 for 4 months or more, there should never be any need for them to look back at your savings before then.

Thank you so much replying back to me I have been panicking so much to be honest I get my state pension at the end of the year. So if I do get universal credit it's only from now to end 2025 because I know universal credit will stop when I receive my state pension
