Hi,

just wandering what everyone is making of the incoming cuts to be announced end of this month. Labour are coming up with some nasty stuff. Across the channel we have trump thinking of his country first, but here we are giving out money like it grows on our trees. Labour given away nearly 5 billion then will punish the disabled and elderly here in the U.K. funny enough the cuts will come to 5 billion. Iv got nothing against no one but it’s unfair we have poverty, homeless and big issues here to be focused on to help yet these are the ones that will be hurt more, it’s really sad that the money given away can’t be used for the people of this country. I am worried about these cuts incoming how big they will actually be and how quick these changes will come through. There will be a lot more suffering and pain to come.

Hi, I saw this morning a document published that describes the 5 principles the government using to inform their decisions on disability and incapacity benefits prior to the Green Paper. Don't know how to link it sorry but it's on The Resolution Foundation website. I've skim read it but can't remember it now I'll have to go back to it, it's a lot of graphs etc.

@ibzy162 meant to say (not a popular view I guess) that I hope we/the UK, don't become so insular and selfish like the US administration (the words vile, inhumane and very low intelligence come to mind but I won't go there ! 🫠 ).

The cuts to the overseas aid budget is shameful imo. So too will deep cuts to the most vulnerable in our society. Politics is all about choices and Starmer et al are not making the choices I expected a Labour government to make. I am supportive of his stance on Ukraine, 100%; so far he's showing a leadership (on defence) that I personally agree with. I think we can look directly across the pond if there is escalation of the conflict in both the East and the Middle East; Trump will have an awful lot of blood on his hands 😪. Goes without saying I think the same of Putin.

Very worrying, unstable and sad times we live in. I always 🙏 for peace, especially the last 3 years but it needs calm heads and I don't see a lot of that.

Hi all, appreciate it’s a really difficult and stressful time at the minute but it’s important to remember that the UK is mandated by law to spend a certain amount on foreign aid and turning against others who are having a difficult time won't make things better here.

While both foreign aid and welfare are funded through taxes and government borrowing, money the UK spends on foreign aid comes from a different budget than the funds allocated to UK welfare.

A reduction or increase in foreign aid would not automatically affect the other budgets, including benefits and welfare.

Plus, foreign aid is often humanitarian but also has benefits to the UK economy, security and reputation.

    Best wishes,
