Selling house to buy a bungalow of less value

Good afternoon everyone. I am in the LCWRA category since 2021. I do still manage to work part time but this is not realistic going forwards. I have asked the council to help with adapting my home but they won't agree to the adaptations I need. They keep saying I should sell and move to a bungalow. I have seen a bungalow but it is a £50000 less value than my house. It is very important to me that I stay on LCWRA as my situation is only going to get worse. Before I became disabled I over paid my mortgage all the time to clear it but have no savings. The bungalow I have seen will be ideal for me but does need work doing. I've heard somethinh about a 6 month rule but the info is unclear and I'm confused. I do 't know if I'm posting in the right section . Can anyone help?

The proceeds if a house sale can be disregarded if you are buying a new home for 6 months. There is Decision Maker discretion to extend that. https://england.shelter.org.uk/professional_resources/legal/benefits/universal_credit/universal_credit_capital_rules#disregarded-capital

Hi Kimmy, I think I need advice as it all looks very complicated. Who do I ask? I would like to put some money into a pension as I don't have one. I am being pressured to move and I know would be the best thing for me but I don't want to lose the lrwra but it's proving almost impossible to find somewhere suitable that is approximately the same value of my current home. I have looked at rhe link, is it saying that I have six months to carry out maintenance on the new bungalow and make it future proof for me as I believe I soon will not be able to work anyway? I estimate maybe £30000 on repairs only, could I in that six months put into a pension some of the rest. I am single and have been for years abd it's a challenge. I almost think I did the wtong thong by overpaying my mortgage.

You could try a local benefits advisor:
