Shoes

Hi all,
I'm just reaching out because we are struggling, and wanted to see if anyone had any helpful advice.
My husband has spastic diplegic CP, and is somewhat unbalanced on his feet, but is able to walk independently.
He would love to be able to find a pair of trainers that he could then have adapted. (he has several pairs of high ankle walking boots- but the summer is coming!)
He has both internal innersole orthotics, and an external wedge added to the sole of the shoe. We have an amazing company near us that do the adaptations, however, we are really struggling to find a pair of trainers suitable for the adaptations.
The main issue we have is that the internal orthotic on one side takes up a large amount of space in the shoe, therefore, we haven't yet been able to find a shoe that can accommodate this and not squash his toes.
We had a quote to have some bespoke trainers made from a company in London with prices starting at £3400!!!!
1) Does anyone know of any other good footwear companies, especially ones that do trainers?
2) Does anyone know of any footwear companies that provide products that are good for adaptating?
3) Does anyone know of any bespoke footwear companies that might quote us slightly less that £3400 for a pair of trainers?
I really appreciate any help or useful links that anyone could provide.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you for reaching out. I completely understand your husband's frustration. There is nothing worse than trying to buy shoes when you have CP. It was a battle my Mum faced with me as a child and it continues as an adult.
I would recommend Nike Flyease They have developed a range of trainers that are fashionable and accessible. I was shocked to hear the price you had been quoted for a bespoke pair of trainers. Flyease prices start at £60.
I hope this information helps.

Hi Sara,
Thank you so much for your comment, It's so nice to interact with other people in the same boat, and not to feel quite so alone.
There must be so many more people out there who have this issue, but there is just nowhere to turn for answers. We could really do with a CP specialist available through social care to help us with these sorts of questions.
Thank you so much for your suggestion of shoes, Sadly he has already tried these shoes, and unfortunately his insole does not fit into the trainers and therefore he can't comfortably wear them.
I really appreciate you tasking the time to reply though- thank you so much 🤗

Hi @MilliganHermoine
I have heard mention of these;
I have no idea how good they would be with your husband's insole, but perhaps you can get a trial?

Hi Richard,
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I'm very grateful for any ideas.
The Shoes you mentioned, look interesting. I'm not sure if they will still be a little tight, but we will certainly look into it!
Thank you 🙏

Hi Hermione
I've not tried their shoes but I've worn suits and trousers made by Rolli-moden for over 30 years.
They're exhaustively well made for people with disabilities and Rolli-moden are very willing to be flexible in my experience.
I'll be surprised if they can't help, they make their own ranges of footwear:
They aren't exactly cheap (@€100) but the quality will be top notch, I bet.
Good luck
Luke

Hi Luke,
Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate you taking them time.
These shoes look great. We will have to have a closer look!
It's great to hear that you have had a positive experience with them too. These sorts of personal recommendations are super helpful.
I'm more than willing to spend £100 on the right pair of shoes, especially if they last a while. My husband currently gets through a pair of shoes every 6 months!
Thank you again! 🤗

If I understand correctly, your husband needs very complex orthopedic shoes. Maybe you should try to find someone who will make shoes from a footprint or a 3D scan?
