LCWRA and work

edited March 13 in Universal Credit (UC)

I was off sick from work for 18 months but unable to go back and I have had to give up nursing permanently and take my name of the register which my doctor agreed with as I will never be fit to return to nursing. I was awarded LCWRA for variety of health issues, physical and mental ones and things have not improved, I have since developed another condition which is having a massive impact. I was awarded LCWRA with universal credit when my statutory sick pay ran out. But after two years off, I would like to apply for a job that I have seen for 11 hours a week, 5.5 hours for two days, the role is one for a person with lived experience of a particular condition and I can do the role sitting down and I will have support with the role. I know the rest of the week I will probably be housebound with severe fatigue and need plenty of support at home, and it will be very difficult but I really want to try to do something. The issue is, can I work the 11 hours a week and still get the LCWRA element of universal credit? Or would I be considered fully fit to work? I will still need help with all the things I do now. If I was going to lose the LCWRA element I'm not sure if it would be worth the effort.

Yes you can get LCWRA and work.

You can also earn (at current rates) £404 (if claiming Housing Element) or £673 (without HE) before UC apply the standard deduction of £0.55p for every pound earned. This is known as the work allowance.

Thanks. Would I need to have a reassessment for LCWRA? It may be if I got the 11 hours a week I may find it completely unmanageable due to pain, fatigue or mental stress. But I want to try

No it wouldn't trigger a reassessment.

At your next review it might go against you if the nature of work contradicts the reasons you were awarded LCWRA.
