Get your MP to act against cuts

Attached is the Response from my MP received today (27/02/25) regarding the proposed Green Paper plans,
Although I used the Scope email template,I made my email personal, but none of my points were acknowledged or responded to in their response.Still, compared to receiving no response at all, Iโm pleased they at least took the time to reply and have given me the opportunity to contact them further. I would love to hear any of your views on this response .
(The email just re-iterates the proposals in my view)
Thank you

my MP is for it ive already contacted them and already had a reply

MP's are a different breed from any other. They are normal until elected and then they change, don't expect anything from them and you won't be disappointed.

thereโs no other way disabled people could make their voices heard in parliament otherwise ,
โฆ..Maybe bang our head against a brick wall? ๐งฑ ๐ฅ

Any updates on how the Scope campaign meeting went at Parliament today? Were there many MPs in attendance to support the campaign and their disabled constituents?
Thanks!

"GET YOUR MP TO ACT AGAINST THE CUTS"โฆ. I keep reading the header to this thread. The average Labour/Con/LibDem MP are mostly all for the cuts. How can we force somebody to do something that they don't want to do,or make them do something that they want to do,but are afraid to do,for fear of losing their cosy position?
It's a very naive thing to suggest that we can tell our MP what we want them to do.
SMH.

Sadly many MPs are in a bubble, mine doesnt even hold surgeries so avoids meeting with real people face to face unless its some pre arranged PR thing with like minded people where knows it will be cosy. Hasnt even ever knocked on my door election time.

My MP is as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
I'd never seen him before in my life until he rocked up at my door looking votes. I don't answer my door to anyone... Ever!
Saw him again when he wanted re-elected. At my door again. Between those two times my sister Emailed him asking for his help with regards to my pip ,not a peep back from him.
Even if I'd heard back to the negative at least it would have been an acknowledgement.
So the chances of him standing with us on the sickening proposals I'd say are zilch.

Such a great question, @jw68. I thought the same after I sent my follow-up email to my Labour MP using Scopeโs campaign template. I subtly & half heartedly added the request to support Scopeโs campaign & parliamentary session at the end of my follow-up email, as it was almost evident in their initial response that they werenโt comfortable saying โyesโ. Letโs see what Scope and other members think about it.

There IS another other way of getting disabled people's voices heard in parliament. ๐
Disabled People Against Cuts are really good with campaigning and taking effective action. They were the ones who organised the big protest by disabled people in London after the cuts were announced and it was through them that the last government had their Green Paper proposals declared unlawful. ๐
There is a new invitation on their website asking disabled people to contact the All Party Parliamentary Group about the cuts.
Here's the link with the details
You have to have certain health conditions to be able to do so on this occasion (the previous time I wrote to the All Party Group recently, you just needed to be disabled) but there is a wide range listed, mine was on there and I've no doubt you will find yours.
To become an unwaged member only costs ยฃ2.00 a year and you can sign up for their newsletter. ๐

Thanks @jul1aorways, much appreciated. Iโve heard about DPAC before but never thought to join until now. Iโve completed the joining application (Google forms) and made a ยฃ2 donation. Iโve also just sent a hello email to my local branch after finding their contact details on the website. Regarding the APPG, I wasnโt quite sure where my conditions would fit in, but Iโll send an email to find out.
Many thanks again!

Your very welcome. ๐ I'm just glad I can help.
I believe that this is what it's all about, helping each other cope with this catastrophic blow we've all had. ๐ฃ I don't just look at every way that I can challenge the system but to pass the message on to others too. This way we can make a united front to, firstly to keep each others spirits up and from that point form a collective, with greater knowledge and determination to fight for our right as human beings to be treated with respect and to do our best to ensure that we do not get misrepresented and disregarded to end up in poverty and despair through absolutely no fault if our own. We deserve our proper place in society, like everyone else, with equal status and quality of life.
Well, that's my sermon for today anyway! ๐ Seriously, I do believe we can achieve so much more together. ๐As you say "Strength in Disabilities" ๐

Not Tom Collins by any chance ? On Facebook, I saw a post from Richard Burgon mp.labour mp is against the cuts and has sent up a petition on change against the cuts. Your name dosent need to be displayed if you tick the box. I did make a new poll yesterday on here with the information. It's worth getting behind him..also dwp spent ยฃ12000, on media training for 6 mps to defend the cuts unbelievable.

A very interesting article from the Guardian about the ACTUAL effect of mental health on society, challenging Wes Streetings woeful, harmful pro "welfare reforms" drival, that he is feeding to the MSM.

@jul1aorways, thank you. I loved your โsermonโ and I honestly hope you keep going๐. We need voices like yours that cut through the noise and lift others up.
Your message reminded me again of what it means to empower ourselves. Because letโs call it what it is. This so-called โbiggest shake-up to welfare in a generationโ(as liebour keeps banging )isnโt about support. Itโs about control, cuts, and silencing the most vulnerable.
The Labour trio โ Starmer, Kendall, Reeves have clearly decided weโre easy prey. That weโre weak, silent, and wonโt push back. But โฆ Boy!! theyโve got it completely wrong. We are strong. We are united. And we are not going to sit back and let them rip away our rights.
I believe we can tear these damaging proposals to pieces. Then rebuild something that works โ something bespoke, inclusive, accessible, rights-based, and genuinely centred around peopleโs lived experiences. A system that actually honours the Equality Act and protects those it claims to serve.
Right now, what theyโve put forward is the complete opposite. Iโve gone through their reasoning. Itโs paper-thin and full of contradictions. The fact that they scrapped the WCA just because the welfare bill is rising? Thatโs not reform. Thatโs reckless and illogical.Hereโs what it feels like, to me anyways!!. Imagine a patient in intensive care who is finally showing signs of recovery. Then imagine doctors withdrawing life support, not because itโs the right medical call, but because it costs the NHS ยฃ1,621.16 a day. They call it โmoral.โ Letโs be clear โ thatโs choosing to let someone die to balance the books.
Thatโs what this proposal is doing to disabled people. And itโs unacceptable.
But I truly believe we can turn the tide. If we all speak up in this consultation, if we show up with facts, experience, and solidarity, we can block this. Parliament must be given no space to push these proposals through.
Thatโs how I see it.
AndI believe, with everything in me, that we can win this.

Wow, ๐ฎ What you've had to say is so insightful, powerful and most of all positive!!
Thank you for what you've said about my "sermon" lol. That's great, it really is. ๐
Don't worry about me!! I shall keep going. ๐ Make no mistake. I'm not giving in to evil, narcissistic low lives like them. ๐ก THEY'RE NOT WORTH IT!
You look as though you intend to fight back, whatever happens, for as long as it ever takes, the same as me. Neither you or I or anyone else who is disabled should allow them to get away with this outrage.
We must all remember that we are EVERYTHING they are not. I think it takes a unique kind of courage and resilience just to get through each day with our health conditions before we even start on what we have to do to cope with the appalling and completely undeserved treatment that we have to endure.
I actually think that they see our integrity and great determination and gaslight us to try to psychologically beat it out of us. They know that we have the all the qualities they will never be capable of.
We have right on our side and know there are more holes in their argument than a sieve. ๐ I think we can do this from a position of strength ๐ช as long as we believe in ourselves and continue to see them for the paper tigers they are.
Nothing about these proposals is genuine but our argument is, however they try to misrepresent us to the public.
We and our advocates are ready for them. They can only completely win if they can demoralise and divide us. There is so much that can be gained, we already know no we can't possibly afford to lose. That MUST spur us on to do whatever we can, whatever they throw at us. ๐

Many thanks for your kind words ๐๐ฝ. Youโre absolutely spot on ๐๐
your message really resonates with mine๐ช๐ฝ๐ช๐ฝ. I admire your strength and determination, and together, we can make sure they donโt get away with this. โ๏ธ
Let us all Keep fighting the good fight! โ๏ธ2 -
Thank you for your very complementary and empowering reply!๐ ๐ค
It's put a big smile on my face and given me a real boost!! ๐ช Thank you. ๐
We both really seem to be on the right page, fighting back for us is the ONLY option, as far as we are both concerned. Your courage and determination is really inspiring. There's no doubt about it, WE'VE GOT THIS! ๐๐๐
Of course, we will encourage and support each other but most importantly, to continue to empower other disabled people here who have been pitched into the sheer horror of what will happen to their lives, if these proposals go through.
The biggest challenge is to break through the government's depraved rhetoric on this to give them hope, support them as people and to point them in the right direction for practical support, so they can make a difference too. Hopefully that sort of empowerment will then go on encourage them to help others in the same way. ๐ค๐ช
We do need to fight them and NEVER give up that fight whatever happens!! ๐

Again, @jul1aorways,Thank you! This is so, so spot on, and all I hear are the cries of our fellow members. I believe the only thing we can do is fight โฆ fight, fight, fight - putting all our fears and speculations aside.
I donโt want to find myself in the future, looking back and thinking that I/we could have made a change, but allowed fear to silence us.
Another thought which popped in my racing mind:I know youโve pointed me towards organisations like DPAC, but I truly wish there was someone here on the SCOPE forum with legal knowledge -like a welfare rights officer or someone of that calibre who could compile a counter proposal, perhaps several thousand pages long, with real comments(from this thread )that align our points to the relevant laws. If we could respond to this consultation in such an informed and structured legal way, it would be so impactful alongside our individual responses. All of this may sound like a dream, but this is how badly I want to hold this government accountable for the distress theyโve caused to so many.
But whatever happens, like you, I want to see this through to the end.ย
Best wishes Juls !โ๏ธ1
