Hi I'm freaking out.

I've seen lots of people online saying when they were migrated over to UC they lost council tax benefit and I'm confused about my housing benefit.

I live in over 55s sheltered accommodation but am under 55. I receive full council tax benefit.

I am on high rate pip for both care and mobility get the extra disability premium, and I currently on esa support group. I've had my letter to say I must migrate by 2nd April and as per advice am waiting til near the end of this month so I still get one last PIP with ESA payment in the 2 week period.

I'm already freaking out as I hear horror stories of people being made to agree to lots of work commitments even though people have saud I should go straight into the LCWRA group and now I'm hearing people are losing their council tax benefit? And what about my housing benefit which I'm already on?

Thank you for any help.

As you live in sheltered housing, your rent will continue to be paid via Housing Benefit even after you have claimed UC.

You will be entitled to LCWRA element from the start of your UC claim (the UC equivalent of ESA Support Group). This does often take a few weeks for ESA to confirm your status with UC, you should see LCWRA on your first payment statement.

You'll need to let your local council know when you've applied for UC, they'll probably ask to see your first payment statement.

Some local authorities treat UC differently to legacy benefits and some people have seen a change in how much they need to pay towards their Council Tax.

As each area has different rules, we are unable to advise on individual cases from here.
