That's a short way of saying:
- I have no evidence of over diagnosis.
- I have done no research into the frequency of overdiagnosis.
- I cannot, by any measure, back up my assertion that in certain circumstances over diagnosis exists.
- And, potentially, I read right-wing propaganda, lapping it up as gospel without independent thought.
- When I'm called out on my assertion, I attempt to change the question (from alleged over diagnosis to people defrauding the system) and mock the questioner.

I am not going on any research but just going on what I think where the rise from claimants has come and why. I could be wrong and everyone on disability benefits could be genuinely disabled, unable to work, limited capability. I am not going to tell you that people are not taking advantage of it because I think some people are. I could be completely wrong.
That is not to say the gov can reduce peoples money or make it harder to apply for it. Yes, the gov has used this narrative as propaganda to go against welfare. At the same time there are people who seem genuinely fine that claim it. The question is how can you measure disability? You can't. It affects everyone differently.
The thing I am implying here is rather than saying there definitely is benefit fraud, I am saying many people who should be getting disability are not getting it because the gov has made it so hard and are making it harder by using this argument as a narrative and propaganda. It is based on a decades old criteria. We have many disabilities now in this modern age. Modern times mean modern disabilities. The gov need to realize this and not reduce it but fund it.

Well they won't ever be voted in again , the money in their banks is obviously more important than doing their job they were elected for by looking after their people. But they are done for .

I know one person who got PIP for being agoraphobic, but he is always out on his own , that's not agoraphobic in my opinion . I am agoraphobic I don't go out of the house without my husband . I'm never left alone either because I am phobic about everything .

I think if you know of anybody who is fraudulently claiming any benefits, including down to ill health or disability. Then you should report it.
That the system needs reform, that’s clear, but alongside charities and the disabled community.

Yes, it needs reform by them funding it properly, it is the only way. Remove the WCA, let local jobcentre and work coaches decide if a person needs disability. Leave people who have lifelong illnesses alone, include mental health criteria in PIP. Don't reduce it, fund it.

Also PIP is a lot harder to qualify than LCWRA and I think a lot on LCWRA can qualify for PIP but have not applied. They need to think about that, of course they won't do it.

You'd be surprised how quick the gov can get it done if they want to do it.

maybe the rise is because we have gone through a pandemic, where millions of people in the UK have developed long covid. That’s statistically proven and we have let the virus run free for whatever reasons.
This is not only a UK problem, other countries are suffering from the same issues.
The media are manipulating and misleading the figures regarding this. Every few weeks they change the parameters, the compared countries etc they are a joke
I read the other day that in Spain or Italy 12% of their working age population is off on long term sickness.
The impact of COVID is understated by everyone.

it will be a whitewash, why even bother.

We've launched a new inquiry on the Government’s welfare reform proposalsThe inquiry will examine@DWPgovuk's planned changes to disability and health-related benefits, announced by@leicesterlizlast month and are contained in the Pathways to Work Green Paper0 -
Saw this on Dr Jay Watts X page.

Most people think agoraphobic cannot go out at all. That is simplistic and wrong. People with agoraphobia often leave home in certain limited circumstances. You have bravely cited your own. Perhaps the person of whom you write can only venture out alone without the pressure of people around him.

I’m sorry just feel so down about it all.

Hi everyone,
I just watched Disability talk with Steve . Apparently the work and pensions committee is launching a benefit inquiry into the proposed benefits cuts .

not at all as Debbie is one of the few good ones and it's a cross party board
Completely wrong! She's even more insincere than Stephen Timms, the man she replaced.
Was a healthcare professional herself before Work and Pensions. No, not a good one!

The problem is that, when you start reiterating and validating the idea that 'some people are cheating', you are actually causing harm to disabled people, especially those whose disabilities are less easy to codify in the current system.
The DWP's official stats for fraud in PIP are negligible (0%) and ESA are very low as well. The DWP are not friends to disabled people, and many, many claimants have struggled to prove their claims, gone through tribunals, had issues with assessments and reports…this forum is full of those testimonials. This is good evidence that the DWP is not letting people claim disability benefits or related benefits easily. If even the DWP - who want to monitor our banks for fraud - think there isn't much or even any going on, then it probably isn't.
When disabled people start questioning other disabled people, that's when we lose this fight. It ultimately comes down to - "I know I'm disabled, but I don't know you are, so maybe you're not". Or worse, "My disability affects me like this, but yours affects you differently, so maybe you're not really disabled." These are all ideas floating around at the moment, in the media, on social media, and in comments sections on threads and stories.
This is not a rhetoric we should jump on board with.

These changes to LCW and LCWRA were planned way back in 2011. The last two welfare reform Acts need to be revisited and understood - the WRA 2012 and the changes to substantial risk rules in 2016.
Those were cross-party agreements! It's a stitch up.
