oh my days just checking in whilst watching the spring statement. No words

Me too, currently listening to it on another page open and I'm just gobsmacked

They won't win their case on PIP, their argument against it makes no sense lol cutting PIP to get those into work.

I definitely feel the target on my back.

sky News wrote, “She tells the House: "The Universal Credit standard allowance will increase from £92 per week in 2025-26 to £106 per week by 2029-30, while the Universal Credit Health element will be cut by 50% and then frozen for new claimants."
does this mean the 50% cut will start in April next year, in 2029, or April this year?3 -
She is so stupid , working people can get pip so they can continue working . Making it harder they may not be able to work
14 -
My understanding of that is it will come into effect in 2029-30. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken though!

Is the health element being cut from today? If true why should I migrate over?

thank you
Is it only for new claimants? (obviously that’s not ok either, but just wondering how much to panic about my own budget if my LCWRA rate is to be cut by 50%)

I can't stand the lot of them, their is no need to cut any welfare and it is NOT spirling out of control! i also hate the prase inactive. We spend and it goes back to the economy.
This will be labours biggest regret and it will haunt them for generations to come.
Starmer has full faith in reeves, of course he does they are all in it for themselves.
I am truly disgusted by this government, how can they even defend this, i know we still have true labour MPs against these cuts but we need far more.
I know some who are watching reeves statment might be tough but the PIP cuts and heath element will get challenged for sure, as someone who had mentioned they can't do this right now with it being green apper.
Easier said than done but please stay calm. These are what they want but their is a long way to go before this goes in to law with many more steps to go.

The cuts for the health element of UC for new claimants are expected to be introduced in the second half of next year. Today they've added a freeze to the cut amount for new claimants of the health element of UC.
For existing claimants, they are working towards 2029-2030 to start making changes to health element of UC and they are also considering transitionary support as part of that process.
As usual, they seem to have gone into this trying to make all the changes as complicated as possible so nobody can understand it easily.

Professor Snape's statement on benefits: They are reducing LWRCA (the actual disability benefit) by HALF and freezing it. They are increasing Universal Credit to £109 per week meaning people on just LWRCA and not PIP will be worse off by £150-£200 a month. This is a war on disabled people. We need mass protests. This is mass murder. We need more people to get angry now. This will finish our country. WE WERE MUCH BETTER OFF WITH THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY! I never seen anything like this at all.

Unsure about that one I'm afraid. Honestly, they're doing a bad job at explaining what it all means. It's so confusing

I have just gone been moved over to uc but still get esa paid every fortnight. Does that mean I will be a new claimant.

So the policy that was removed owing to Labour MP's furious is back
this really is the crossroads for Labour, The Unions and people who support Labour.
This is blatant discrimination I sincerely hope as many charities take legal action

Wholeheartedly agree with you. Been hard today for me (as I'm sure others too) with the stress of all this. I know that this proposal is most likely not even going to make it through because organisations will have things to say but it's just the fear of having a Government that labels these as moral decisions. Honestly shocking

This is 'punishing' the sick and disabled, for simply being sick and disabled.
I'm Convinced that they are 'trying to kill us off' !!!!!

Also… if you lose PIP daily living, you'll lose LCWRA which will make some people £700 a month worse off plus lose support for carers. Losing these also means you no longer receive pension credit either, which means your state pension will be reduced if/when you hit retirement age if you don't have enough years credits.

I'm confused on the "cutting LCWRA by half". Does that mean everyone's LCWRA payments will be slashed by half? I get just over £400 for my Health Element (LCWRA), will that be reduced to £200 or am I not understanding it properly? All of this is so confusing and they don't help by explaining it in the way they do

Worst government in my lifetime, they make the last tory government look compassionate.
