Spring Statement Discussion (link to documents here)

Following on from the Spring Statement today I know I am echoing what others say; I am absolutely shocked and, more importantly, concerned at the attitude of this "Government".
Just my thoughts (and not conspiracy theory type stuff) - I honestly wonder if they are actually looking to kill off a huge number of society.
From my own situation I do not have four points on any descriptor on the Daily Living Element of PIP. I have twos and threes on several.
Watching the analysis following the statement - they were saying that we will have to attend a qualified clinician regarding our particular health conditions to get their opinion.
From my own personal experience regarding the spinal disease and injuries, it took months (and I was lucky it was only months) to get any sort of treatment at a major London Hospital - and I chased them too. I have now been discharged because they have categorically told me there is nothing more they can do.
I also have other conditions as a result of some of the drugs they gave me for the bone disease. I also have Crohn's, which is reasonably well controlled for six weeks out of every eight - however limited mobility and Crohn's don't go well together. I'm sorry if that's TMI; however we have to be honest about what we deal with.
Add to this the general older age issues creeping in (I'm in my 60s but years off being able to claim State Pension).
I must admit (and I hope this brings a little smile to people on this discussion) I did have a bit of a laugh when they were banging on about all these jobs in the construction industry.
Let's all pitch up there with our wheelchairs and mobility equipment then. 🤬- what a load of old rubbish they talk. They really have NO clue.
In fact, I'm actually tempted to apply for one of these construction jobs (when they are created). I'll be at least 63 then…. and disabled.
I have resigned myself to the face that I will never get to 70 years old and I will die in poverty if these reforms are passed.
No apologies for the vent - this is the only place I can go to where people really understand. Thank you for reading.

The NHS were amazing especially during the covid pandemic. I watched the itvx drama on it. I find it disgusting how people are treated having the effect of covid. My joints are terrible since I caught it in late 2022, and my joint hypermobility syndrome got so bad I had to give up work.

From November 2026 OBR says that 32% of claimants will lose PIP Daily Living component, due to the 4 point rules. So that’s not only 1.5 million PIP claimants but also potentially 1.5 million Carers Allowance recipients who will lose C.A !

so there saying you are protected until 2029/2030 before any changes will take place as an existing recipient of LCWRA.?
They will just stop people’s pip from November 2026 to get round it no doubt

Ah that's some hopefulness for this absolute **** day! Thank you. Put a bit more optimism in my head, something to hold on to with these changes. I've just been feeling so desperate all day today

FroFrom my understanding starting 2026/2027 fiscal year. So we have a year to save loads or win the lottery to be OK.

Jeremy Corbyn asked about the welfare reforms. Said there are over 4 million children living in poverty, over 1 million people in receipt of PIP that will lose it because of her statement. She's put a huge amount of money into defences. Could she not think to reverse the cuts to welfare and end two child benefit cap that have pushed people into really desperate poverty.
Reeves' response: I'm going to make any apologies for putting more money into defence. This Labour Government takes defence seriously and so we should. We are the party that created NATO and under the leadership of the Labour Government today, we will always defend our country

To me Reeves, Kendall and Starmer have a script given in regards of disability/incapacity benefits and that script has been playing out since 2023 when the Telegraph pushed how much disabled people cost the tax payer article.
Attack line after attack line, hit piece after hit piece, over and over again trying to sway public opinion against the disabled/incapacitated and the buck was passed from the Tories to Labour in order to enact harsh cuts and THEY KNOW they'll plunge people into poverty and they do not care.
Am I surprised Labour have gone this far? Yes, I suspected they'll do something about Welfare but not on this level.

Is there somewhere we can read the OBR? I noticed they kept quoting it for economic boosts but don't know where to find it

Rachel Reeves will not been in post for much longer. She is stultifying growth with both this benefits policy and about to increase debt as her small business taxes begin to hit. Disabled people do spend money! Not much… but you put them on a pittance and the economy will be affected. They’ve jumped the gun, no jobs, no ‘specialist’ work coaches or AI systems in place.. it’s a disaster. I give her three months, six months tops. When the economy fails to grow in the autumn she’ll be out.

How is this going to work with the migration to UC & TP? As I understand it there is no provision to remove the equivalent of SDP if you lose PIP or get a carer after you migrate, you just stay as you are. Given that, are we going to see a flurry of reassessments to remove the SDP or are they going to delay the migration? I'm not due for reassessment till 2027, but if they want to wrench my SDP off me maybe they'll bring it forward. I'll be destitute when they take everything, I'll be homeless and lose my dog. Even if they keep my 8 pts for engagement as it stands, I don't think I'll be able to cope waiting for that letter for months, knowing what's at stake. I'm going to have a breakdown or a stroke waiting for that axe to fall.

Sophy Ridge, Sky News has just twitted this in the past hour.
'50,000 children will be pushed into poverty as a result of the changes to welfare - and a total of 250,000 peopleThat's according to the Gvt's own impact assessment.'
Several Labour MPs already expressing their disquiet.

In terms of PIP changes, I get 8 pts for engagement & 2 for prompting in a few other categories. What worries me is reading between the lines there seems to be a desire to remove prompting completely in the descriptors, then the only route to PIP for MH will be engagement, I'm worried they will drop it to 4 points, that will mean I will go from EDL to nothing and lose LCWRA. Nothing seems improbable anymore.

What boggles my mind is how on earth can they justify this, utter cretins, heartless cowardly creatures.
How can anyone justify throwing people into poverty?

Plus 3,000,000 people hit with the cuts to disability benefits. On all the news channels

Better deal with the EU would deliver 2.2% GDP growth
Her plans 0.05% Growth, See the problem with Reeves?
She talks about Global Changes but not changed enough to talk #brexit
this is the crux of the blackhole we face, Labour MP's and the Unions are at the crossroads now, they are elected by us to be the voice of US. If they pretend this isnt a full out attack on disabled people because clearly like when he stood for the leadership, Feckless Starmer changes his policies depending on the last wealthy person he spoke with.
windfall tax on energy companies
Wealth tax even at 2% would bring in billions
Tax on online gambling firms and online retailers
the lowest 50% of the population *all of us spend the most and put the most back into the economy, Wales is gone, Scotland the same. No wonder they were so silent in the GE
and Rayner can appear on TV smiling saying "Working class people dont like handouts"
