Hi, my name is sabz!

I’m hoping someone could help me if this has ever happened to them. I made an application to pips in February this year after being diagnosed with a re occurance breast cancer. I have had masectomy had so many setbacks in my recovery which has delayed my chemo. (Was due to start next week). All of this combined I’m living with a stage 3b cancer at the moment and my mental health is on a serious decline. Anyways I had a phone assessment and during the call it was just me and the assessor. Unfortunately though I felt there was a communication of understanding them during the phone call. I did repeat a lot of times that I didn’t understand the question could they ask it again. Another worrying part for me was the assessor had their phone in the background of the assessment. This made me feel that there was a lack of concentration during the phone call from their part with their mobile present and I could hear either messages or notifications be received? I felt the whole assessment undignified speaking about my personal ability to not being able to do things and the explaining to a male how my body has been dismembered. I’m only 7 weeks post surgery so everything has been a trauma at present and very raw. The fact anyone with disabilty due to illness has to tell a complete stranger over the phone ur incapacitates felt degrading to be in their words awarded? Horrendous the whole ordeal.

Hi @sabz, welcome to the community. These assessments can feel so intrusive, I'm sure a lot of our members will be able to empathise with you there. Feels awful to be justifying what you can and cant do and laying out your sometimes traumatic medical history to someone you don't know. Well done for getting through it all, it's not an easy thing to do at all.
Fingers crossed you hear back quickly from the assessment and that it's a good result for you 💛
