Hi, my name is Suzycatwoman! Son having issues with housing after UC migration, any advice?

I care for my disabled son who had been instructed to migrate to UC from ESA support group. He is in a HA property managed on behalf of the council. It is a nightmare as they said he still gets ESA but has not had any letters explaining how much. He was up to date with rent until forced to migrate.

Hi @Suzycatwoman, welcome to the community. That sounds really frustrating. Sorry if I've misunderstood, have problems with your sons payments prevented you from paying his rent or does it go directly to the housing association?

If you'd like to get some advice from a benefits professional, they can be really helpful. Turn2Us have an advice finder if that's something you'd like to look into:

Hope you can get things sorted soon

Thanks very much he has just migrated to UC from ESA after being told he had to migrate. Previous housing costs were fully paid by Housing benefits in full. I will try your advice on Turn2Us.

    Hi,

Housing costs should still covered by the Housing Element of Universal Credit after migration.

How long has it been since the migration?

Some people continue to get New Style ESA after migrating, but that doesn't affect the Housing Element on UC.

Hi l recently migrated from ESA to UC which was very stressful l don’t feel lm quite recovered and still feel anxious l did still get some ESA but you then get less UC as you are not allowed to get both . I was told by citizen. Advice that there would be a short fall in my rent as UC take 5 weeks to make your first payment l had to pay 2 weeks myself my rent is still behind you can ask UC pay your sons rent direct to the housing association

    Good luck
