Yesterday was a powerful and important day celebrating Disability Pride at the Senedd!

The event was organised and facilitated by Scopes Jenna Trakins who is the Community Programme Lead (Cardiff) and Becky Hill who is the Community Adviser (Cardiff). They did an incredible job of making this a fun and empowering day celebrating local disabled people in Cardiff😄

First up was Mark Isherwood MS who was the event sponsor and told us his story and what disability pride means to him.

Then, Neurodivergent Friendly Cymru gave a talk about the work they have done with Scope to produce sensory bags in Cardiff hubs. It was lovely to hear the steps towards making Cardiff a much more accessible place!

Followed by Jackie from Cardiff Youth Service who gave us a poem about her experiences as a young disabled woman.

Next we had Chloe from Vision21 who put a smile on everybody’s face by giving us a really entertaining talk on pottery, what it means to her and her story about being a disabled artist.

Then we had the great Gavin Clifton who gave us a presentation about his experience about being a disabled author and writer!

After that was Nikita from DeafBlind UK talking about their organisation's successes and this was really lovely to hear how they have made such a positive difference to so many disabled people.

Next was the wonderful Steph who told us all about her story into employment with Scope's Working On Wellbeing Service.

Followed by Anum who did a speech about her experience of being a disabled dancer and performed some Bollywood dancing. This was so much fun and I wanted to dance along! Watch the video here!

And finally, the day was closed by the absolutely amazing Choir – Shiny Happy People. They never fail to put a smile on everybody’s face and definitely ended the event on a high! Watch the video here!
