pip question - has my PIP review started before it was due?

Hello
I hope someone can help me. My pip is up for renewal in October 2025. I received the forms for renewal in Feb 2025 i filled them and sent them off in April. I received 2 general messages one saying
"We have received your PIP review form. We may contact you for more information or you may need an assessment with a health professional ... " and
"We still have your PIP form and will be progressing your review as soon as we can..."
Just today I have received another text "This is a message from Health Assessment Advisory Service. We conduct Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)β¦."
What does this mean I thought I had another 3 months or so, and that there is a backlog. Does this mean that my review has started before it was due. I'm confused if someone can help me

Yes⦠there is a huge backlog of claims, with the government now saying 1,000 people a day are applying.
Those are normal messages, they usually tell you you'll keep receiving PIP until they get around to reviewing your case and make a decision. I received the same messages dotted over the course of a year before they finally scheduled a call to interview me. They are now conducting face-to-face interviews again, so you might be called in for one of those this time.

Hi thank you for replying, okay i was unsure what these messages were.
When did you have your assessment appointment?
how long after your renewal end date did they assess you?
If they have a backlog is this just to let people know that they are processing their forms x

I think it ran close to 12 months after the expiry date on my claim when they finally assessed me. It ran through pretty quickly after the assessment to a decision. They'll keep texting you similar messages in the meantime. I found it annoying because every time they texted it put the thing back to the front of my mind again, but oh well, what can you do?

Thank you for messaging I'm exactly the same I was in a panic, but now understand it's just general messages that they send xx

Did the message from the assessment company have a date when you will be assessed?

Hi no it didn't just this
"This is a message from Health Assessment Advisory Service. We conduct Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). This is for information only, to let you know that we are managing your PIP assessment. We will look at the available evidence and will contact you with an appointment if we need to arrange an assessment with you...."
and then the info how to contact them

It looks like they have started on your review, they will look at the evidence you have sent in previously, you may have sent in enough for them to progress a paper based assessment, if not, they will contact you for an assessment. This is normally progressed before your PIP end date, but due to backlogs it can be after with an extension to your award. You will still get your PIP payments until a decision is made.

Hi, Just filling in my pip review form, pip was awarded up to Feb 2026. Feeling slightly nervous, did have a paper based assessment and for 4 years last time. Where does the time go! Not feeling too hopeful tbh.

Hi,
Ive sent so much paper work, id another paper assessment. Medicals are fine but I don't trust these all people to log the correct details and plus they lie too. They said I attended a medical on my own, which I didn't. We called for the sign in book and CCTV footage. It just creates more unnecessary work to do. Life's hard enough with having to challenge everything.
