Hi, my name is Rachjono2014! Appealing against issues with my son's college transport, any advice?

Hi, I am looking for support or advice, my son attends an SEN college he has Autism and communication difficulties likened to Selective Mutism and toileting problems and was using minibus travel that was awarded but due to issues with him feeling threatened with other children talking at him, toileting issues due to extended travel time home due to drop offs on the way, issues of the minibus being cancelled or late without notice I emailed the CSD passengers and this was changed to taxis, which has worked so much better for him, due to him staying on another year at college I had to reapply for transport, minibus travel was awarded and I appealed stating that I requested the change due to issues and this was denied by them despite me showing email evidence, they stated that it was only changed due to 'timetable issues with college' I have stage 2 appeal this week and was looking for any advice if anyone has been through anything similar. Ultimately if I lose the appeal I know my son will not go back onto the minibus due to the issues last time and will therefore have to drop out of college as I also work full time and not able to take him and drop him off everyday. Thank you in advance

Hi @Rachjono2014 and a warm welcome to the community from me!
This sounds like a really stressful situation for both of you, how are you both doing at the moment? From what you've described it sounds like you've done the right thing by challenging he transport decision, especially since you have clear evidence to support what you are saying!
During the appeal it may be helpful to focus on your sons specific needs and how and why the minibus has been unsuitable for him. It also may be helpful to really stress that your son taking taxis is a necessity, not a preference and if they deny him suitable transport they could effectively exclude him from college.
Have you contacted your local SENDIASS about this? These are the education experts who can give you free and impartial information and advice on everything to do with education such as EHCPs, tribunals, call and attend meetings and sometimes allocate you a specific caseworker so they may be able to allocate you a caseworker in time for the tribunal.
IPSEA is also great to contact directly for free legal advice around education. They run an open diary booking system for appointments. It is difficult to get one but worthwhile if you do. You can also phone them 3 days a week for shorted queries! They also have a Tribunal Support Service that may be helpful.
I really hope the appeal goes well and please feel free to post an update about it goes if you feel comfortable too😊
I hope this was helpful, please reach out if you would like more information and support!0
