Hello to all, I'm looking for some answers if anyone can help please. I was claiming esa income related for 10 years. I also claim pip for enhanced . I recently filled out a migration form for uc but I was not asked about my son who is 33, works full time and lives in bedroom 2 of my 2 bedroomed house. He cares for me. He does not claim carers allowance. I'm not sure what happens now regarding my money. Nobody has explained anything. I always had my rent full allowance and council tax paid.will this stay the same.

Assuming you have submitted your application, you need to log onto your UC account (Journal), and use the Report a Change section to tell them about your son living with you.

If you rent, no money will be taken off (non dependant deduction) your Housing Element because you get PIP.

It is advisable to use your Journal to write a note (using the payment option) telling them you get PIP.

You will receive one more payment of ESA/HB, known as the run on payment. Around 5 weeks after claiming UC you will receive your first payment. Your Journal will have your payment date and the date your payment statement is due.

Citizens Advice have a Help to Claim service, they can answer questions and check your first payment statement is correct. This is a national service run by phone and webchat, not linked to your local branch.

Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level, with each local authority having different rules. It's hard to advise on individual cases from here.

Some local areas do treat UC differently to legacy benefits and some people have seen an increase in the amount they have to pay towards CT.

Thank you for your help. I have a telephone call from uc on Thursday. I actually made a mistake also whilst filling out on line form. During my claim for esa I had a social fund and I owe back 185.00. One question arose asking if I had any welfare help or loans I said yes and the amount I put was 185.00 that I currently owe. I felt uneasy at sending the form as I wasn't confident in the question. Shall I wait until I identify myself on Thursdays telephone call as I didn't have appropriate documentation. It's making me so sick again with worry.

    TThank You anyway
