Purple Tuesday is a hugely significant day to raise more awareness about the importance of accessibility, and a day to encourage businesses to do more to create a fairer and more inclusive society. 17% of the world are disabled, and although we've come some way, the barriers the community still face is simply not acceptable.

Title: I support purple Tuesday written in white on a purple circular background. A white thumbs up is also depicted.

According to the Purple Tuesday website, the UK Disability Survey reported that:

  • 78% of disabled people find shops and shopping centres inaccessible or inconvenient.
  • 66% of disabled people find pubs, clubs and bars inaccessible or inconvenient.
  • 48%of disabled people find theatres, cinemas or art venues inaccessible or inconvenient.

Alongside this, it's been identified that over 70% of disabled people will NOT return to a business if they receive poor customer service.

Sophie Butler is doing amazing things on social media raising awareness about inaccessibility. She recently raised awareness of a brand new theatre in London being completely inaccessible after they invited her to a musical.

It is very shocking that in 2025 brand new buildings are still being developed and built with such little (or no) accessibility in mind!!
