Joint to Single Claim Carers Element
Hi everyone,
Currently on a joint claim (Basic, LCWRA for me, Carers for partner) but I genuinely think my marriage is over. No housing element as house is mortgaged, no children. If I go to a single claim I believe my LCWRA is protected, but quite honestly I would rely on the £209 carers element to be able to afford bills. Can I add someone as a carer for me who is not on UC? I have my auntie and a close friend who also provide care to me but both work so aren't on UC. So their earnings wouldn't be taken into account anyway but just need to know if I can still have this element on my single claim. Thanks.

No. As a single claim you can only claim what you yourself are entitled to and you cannot claim carers element without caring for someone, and cannot claim carers element and LCWRA yourself either.

The Carers Element is only for care that you provide to another person. It is not for people that provide care to you.
