How does a PIP award affect Work Capability Assessment?

Hi all,

I just received the standard rate of the daily living PIP component. Working out how this affects other benefits is incredibly confusing and seems to designed on purpose to stop people from claiming what they’re entitled to.

My questions are related to getting a Work Capability Assessment while receiving PIP. From my research, it seems I can now be in employment while requesting a WCA because of the PIP award. However, if I am judged as having limited capacity for work, how long will that judgment last?

My health wanes throughout the year and I usually only work for a couple of months at a time. If I was judged as having limited capacity and then I went and got a job for two months, would that judgment stay in place or would I have to have another WCA once I am unemployed again?

Thanks all!

    Hi

Pip doesn't affect work capability they are seperate benefits with different criteria

You are permitted to work and get PIP as long as the work doesn't contradict your reason for getting PIP

As for your WCA the award lasts until you are next assessed

Are you classed as LCW or LCWRA

You dont need to tell PIP you are working but you would need to tell DWP for your other benefits

You are permitted to work but this could trigger a new assessment

I'm not sure of the rules around permitted work but other members may have more advice

@janer1967 when you say it could trigger a reassessment is that if you let them know some thing has changed ? Because when I worked for 45 mins that time A early review wasn’t triggered for myself which was good as I’m not able to work .
how are early reviews triggered ? Are they just at random ?

@cupcake88 I am referring to WCA and either esa or UC not PIP

As we have advised before you can work with PIP and do not need to inform them

The small amount you earned wouldn't trigger anything even if it was esa or UC but as you dont claim these there I'd no issue

You are allowed to work but if you suddenly start working after being declared unfit for work and not worked for a while they may want to reassess your work capability

That's what I mean by trigger
