Firewood? Outdoor fire or do you have an indoor wood fireplace?
I remember being at my grans in Ireland and tending to the turf fire, it quite the earthy smell... being peat and all.1 -
@Jimm_Scope I grew up in N Ireland loved the smell of a peat fire, can now put that down to my autism2
-
Yes - firewood for the fire at my Granny's house
Do you like "peated" whisky? It is a big thing in the whisky world and I don't like it at all. It is like having a mouthful of smoke.

Oooh, I do like a peated whiskey and a lovely log fire.
Unfortunately our rescue dog is terrified of fire, so we cant get the fire going each year. Even candles spook the poor old man.1 -
I love whisky, just can't stand peated I wish I did like it, if that makes sense.
I have never smoked before. Does a cigar or cigarette taste smoky in the mouth? Maybe it's a similar sensation to peated whisky?1 -
Some peated whiskeys are lovely, others can be super overpowering.
No similarity between peated whiskey and tobacco smoke though, luckily.2 -
@Albus_Scope I had a try of a peated whisky recently and it tasted like I was eating used BBQ charcoals. I read on the bottle that it was only "lightly peated, to allow the other flavours to shine through". I felt inferior!

That sounds like some serious false advertising there!2
-
@Albus_Scope I have heard though that if you don't like a flavour it really stands out - my Mum doesn't like mushrooms and can taste the smallest trace of mushroom in a dish, even when others couldn't taste it at all.
That said, I do enjoy a BBQ, with the smoky taste of the meat...so I clearly don't hate the smoky taste entirely...
May need to try some other whiskies.2 -
I'm not a huge fan of whiskey.
But I do love the smell of a turf/peat fire. Something very nostalgic of visiting my grandma in Ireland.1 -
Afternoon all not feeling so great today so on a slow one. Perking up a little now2

Sorry to hear that @Sandy_123 Hope you feel better soon1

Thankyou @Jimm_Scope1

Evening all, just writing about a situation this afternoon that I feel is disgusting, working at the food bank when a old man came In with a guide dog+ shades, he came up to me asked if this was the food bank as he was given directions by various people wrongly at times and had walked many miles. Got him a seat , a hot drink and weather his dog needed water and food but dog was fine, he then told me how he lived in Exeter for most parts of his life except when he was in the army, he had lost his wife a few years ago and had to sell his home to pay for her care. He told me the last 2 years he had been passed from pillar to post, kicked in the long grass and forgotten about.he was told last week that his flat in Exeter was to be sold so told to leave. The local council down there were not prepared to house him so was told he had to more to Bournemouth or live on the streets.of course he moved to Bournemouth where he currently has been put in a bedroom in a hotel with nothing in it just bed and sheets and only arrived Monday night. He was given a letter which tells where a food bank is but is all but useless as he is blind plus has a note saying he is blind and needs food and drink and a telephone number of the social services again useless for a blind man. So him crying his eyes out we got in contact with the social services and the social worker in charge of him. Who said tell him I meet him at our office tomorrow for a food voucher so when we told him he's blind and not being in Bournemouth for more than a few days so does not have his street legs or know the town by his and the dogs sense. They said were to busy today to help can you take him home or show him the bus stop and ask the driver the stop the man once. Had to bite tongue and instruct that he was under there care and they needed to arrange days and times in the future so the blind man could get fed.that kind of got arranged. And being forcefully managed to get the voucher done over the phone, then transporting the food, social worker not interested so one of workmates would drop it off, we then tooth him to the door and sent him in the direction of where he had to go with a note saying he lived and hopefully got him. Just feel so angry there's no help available to him2
