@cartha 8 hours on a train, I'll pass lol.
Yeah I found it strange at 1st, no chain coffee shops or anything. All independent. 1 restaurant opposite the castle did nice slow roasted Welch lamb for Sunday lunch. The table close by wasn't keen on English people and said so to themselves.0 -
@Sandy_123 I have a problem in the area where I am living with the neighbours not liking "foreigners" living here. I think I'm too far north. Six miles south in a village where I used to live I never had a problem and got on great with the neighbours. There's a lot of Irish people locally and they often complain about the way they are treated but you don't usually have a problem unless you live here. They welcome visitors. The more southerly part of the county is known as "Little England beyond Wales" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_England_beyond_Wales ) where the accent is more southern England than Welsh sounding, and you rarely encounter Welsh speakers. The people you encountered were probably visiting from further north. I had an experience up in north Wales when a pub went completely silent as a friend and I walked in. We had a drink but were constantly made to feel uncomfortable so didn't stay long. Other pubs we went into near the area were fine. Some people can be strange. I only had that sort of experience once in England but they weren't unfriendly, they suspected us of being from customs, LOL!

@cartha I felt i was in the sticks, so wasn't going to pipe up lol. They were a family group. No I didn't leave the town, as was mainly there for the castle. There was a little bus driving round going to coastal areas like Saunders foot etc. I didn't get on it.0

@Sandy_123 Ah, I see. That area isn't the best example of Pembrokeshire but if you're there to see the castle that's different. There's more in the way of shops at Haverfordwest but the castle there has mostly fallen down and parts have been poorly rebuilt (I say poorly because it sticks out like a sore thumb!). St' David's is great for the cathedral, I've been there often because I just like it there. It's also the smallest city in UK. Loads of boat trips to islands around the coast if you like that sort of thing. I love going to Caldey Island off Tenby when it is quiet. Something peaceful about the place. No good during peak season, too crowded. Tenby has a lot to see, and shops, but too touristy for me. It's difficult to get to see everything even when living here. Every now and then we pick a road and drive to see where we end up. I've discovered cafes in the middle of nowhere, no idea how they survive, flower gardens, even a candle factory in the middle of nowhere! Pottery places where you can make your own souvenirs if you wish, or just paint them yourself, or buy ready made :-) At this time of year everywhere is yellow with daffodils. I love it when they come out.

@cartha yes spring flowers are definitely making an appearance now. I did find Pembroke lovely but I don't think I couldn't live there, it's too remote. I prefer busy. Prefer every thing close by like hospitals 10 minute walk away etc. All the chain coffee shops. I love London. Really historic city. I mean I do love remote but for short breaks lol.0
-
@Sandy_123 I'm the other way around, the more remote the better :-) Probably from growing up in Africa. I used to live in Essex and work in London but it was complete overload for me. A house in the middle of a forest near a stream would be my dream. I'm hoping to move to a tiny village of sixteen houses, soon. Once the lockdown eases enough. We have a village nearby living off-grid but not sure what to make of that. I do like my internet and a few comforts, though I also miss having a proper fire in the house. Our nearest hospital is about ten minutes drive away. Couldn't walk there from here, there's no pavement to walk on ;-)

@cartha I couldn't live with out the internet, I know we grew up with out it and my kids think I'm from 1900s when I tell them that if we wanted to know something we used library, same with mobile phones.
16 house village sounds nice tho, I can't see you having a lot of privacy there tho, you will all know who's who. I don't know half people in my street,1 -
