    My family holds a little draw each year, today my best horse is 14-1, my worst is 80-1, but never say never :) 

    We only put a few pounds in, but it's surprising how competitive it can get!

    Yes I was hoping to pick her, but wasn't so lucky. I heard the horse she's riding has also come back from having a foal?

    Havn't had a bet on the national for years - when my Dad was alive it was a big family day - proper social occasion shame we never carried it on really .

    mmmmmmmm to be fair @Alex_Scope it's something i don't miss ha ha - now my own children have left home we have other types of get to-gethers - we were all at a large family meal, with my sisters,brother and in laws last Sunday and then Easter Sunday they will all be over here again ha ha.

    Fair enough @SueHeath there is such a thing as too much family time! :D 

    I must admit there's some things about the grand national I don't like, as I do worry about the horses- it can be incredibly cruel.

    It's interesting how these sorts of traditions are often passed on through different generations, especially around sport.

    oh yes thats very true Alex and yes to much family time some times ha ha, we had some round to-day they've not long gone. But then again we think ourselves lucky some people do not get to see family, so i am not going to moan.

    @alexscope I did back her but she went down  shame really 1 I backed came 5th I don't know if I've won anything I had each way does that count being 5th
