    Hi @gaz1960 ,

I appreciate your words and want to offer explanation as to why some threads, such as the one you refer to, may be closed.

Although we welcome open discussion across a broad array of topics, we equally have a responsibility to maintain information exchanged is as safe as possible for members.

As such, the community house rules reflect content that is and isn’t permitted, including:

    • impersonating someone
    • against the law
    • harassing, inaccurate, defamatory, abusive, disrespectful, offensive, pornographic, racist, sexist, threatening, vulgar, obscene, hateful or otherwise inappropriate
    • insensitive
    • misleading
    • dangerous to others
    • advertising
    • crowdfunding or asking for money
    • infringing copyright
    • personal information not suitable for public viewing like address, email or phone number
    • not relevant to the community
    • medical advice

I understand it may be frustrating at times when you would like conversations to go further, however our utmost duty is to safeguard members from content that could be harmful.

How is it free to discuss if threads get closed if negative comments?

    It's a forum!

    That means discussion!

    Only positive comments allowed?

    That's censorship!

Well @gaz1960, there is something I would like to say, to let off steam but it may well not be of interest to anyone else!
Here goes: I hate how poor old Vincent van Gogh's beautiful paintings now sell for millions and yet he lived and died in poverty, experiencing rejection, lack of appreciation and despair.
Well, I want to scream and say that I don't want to experience the same fate!!!!
Now, I'm not saying that my artwork is as brilliant as Vincent's. Our work can't be compared because it is in totally different styles. However, my work is also original, unique and a departure from what is usually perceived as a painting, just like Vincent's work was. I have introduced a new element in my artwork, just as Vincent deviated from the Old Masters style of Art.
Chronic illness and disability have prevented me from completing my Art Project, which has 21 canvasses planned. I am still trying my best to continue and I am keeping my hopes alive that I will recover sufficiently to complete all the canvasses.
As you can imagine though, I am extremely frustrated. For several reasons. Yes, because my ill health is holding me back, because I have no idea how to promote my work (I do not wish to sell my canvasses ever but would like to hold an exhibition once the whole Art Project is completed). And let's face it, even if I were to prove successful, I don't think I've got sufficient years left to enjoy the fruits of my labours.
In the olden days artists had "Patrons". I could sure use some practical support with experience in promoting my artwork but I can't afford to employ anyone with such a role.
Does anyone have any ideas? Or am I as doomed as Vincent?

Hi @leeCal, I do not wish to sell my paintings!
I need them around me to cheer me up because my artwork is all I'm living for.
I simply wish to have my work recognised and appreciated. I can't organise an exhibition whilst bedbound! And I need to get better in order to complete the project...

@Oxonlady Hmm!  I agree, it seems such a shame more people can't enjoy and appreciate your artwork!  Do you have a carer that visits who could take some pictures to share online?  There might be virtual galleries in which you could display your pieces (happy to do some researching for you!), likewise, I'd love to take a peek myself and see them on our Kaleidoscope thread :)

You misunderstood, Cher wasn’t addressing you, it was another poster they were asking those questions to.

Gosh, why might threads get closed?

Maybe the moment people feel the need to shout using all capitals.
Might be because someone actually questions the negative reactions to forum discussions?
