As my wife is some years younger I wondered if the Pension Credit will be paid as I thought that both my wife and I would have to be of State Pension age to get this.
You are correct. Pension Credit can only be claimed when your wife reaches pension age. The pensioner premium in the ESA is not Pension Credit, it is an extra entitlement in the ESA if the partner is pension age (as you will be). It brings the benefit entitlement up to the same as it would be if you could claim Pension Credit.

UC doesn't include this which is why there is such a big difference.

Also, as I am the one getting Carer's Allowance for looking after my wife I would be the one to claim the SDP.
No. The SDP is extra money in the ESA claim. The extra SDP is because your wife gets a disability benefit and you will no longer be being paid CA for looking after her. Your wife is the ESA claimant and the SDP is part of her claim. The carer premium will be paid because you have an underlying entitlement to CA but again it is paid as part of the ESA and your wife is the ESA claimant.
Lin56 said: What I do not understand is why she had the SDP paid in her name and the backpay also in her name when I have been getting CA over the years for looking after her.
The SDP she has been getting so far is because of your disability and because no one has been paid CA for looking after you.

The above bit of my earlier reply is incorrect. Sorry, I got muddled. It should say

She just needs to ring them and explain that you have reached pension age so have stopped receiving CA and she understands that she is therefore now entitled to an SDP for herself because she gets daily Living PIP and nobody will be receiving CA for looking after her.

Yes, I see. I was getting so mixed up (I usually am!) with the benefits system. Thank goodness you have helped me, and more than I can say. Many thanks to you.   I will let you know how we get on.

Just wondered how I go about claiming the Pensioner Premium.  I could not find any claim form to download on the internet.

It should be added automatically. As you are close to pension age I would expect your wife to have received a letter telling her that her ESA entitlement will change from the date when you reach pension age. If she hasn't your wife can speak to ESA to make sure that they are aware you are reaching pension age.
