Hello , I didn't know what elce to do I'm hoping someone can help me ,

I applied for pip , in October I had the assessment 3 weeks ago, it took nearly 3 hours , I got the decision on Saturday and basically got 0 points fir anything ,

I provided proof occupational heath doctors note ,I have life long various illness which are incurable which have git worse to the point I had to go through occupational health at work and am limited to were and what I can do ,I have adaptations wet room cubards lowerd , radiator in every room , the assessment looked at my feet , and see how deformed and were the skin has cut to my scar looked at my left had and saw that my knuckeks were swollen my right had I couldn't do what she asked me as I csrnt even Wright or hold a pen , but when I read the assent she lied completely, also put things in there thst she never asked I feel totally let down ,

You’ll need to bear in mind that PIP is not awarded because of an illness or condition.

The assessor is there to form their own opinion on your functioning of the descriptors and therefore there report would not be word for word what you say.

An occupational health report from work nor a doctors note are not going to help as you can claim PIP even if you work.

They also won’t see you day to day so can’t comment on areas such as bathing, toileting , cooking, etc.

Just stating you can’t do something is not enough. You need to give 2 real world examples of what happened the last time you attempted to carry out the activities that apply to you. Detail is the key.

I did , she asked about bathing and I was honest, I have a wet room put in through the councils occupational heath as I carnt cope with cold , and as I dont have feeling in my feet I was buring them , I have a stool in the shower so I can sit , I have issue damage and carpal tunnel plus nerve damage in my right hand to which I can not use it properly ,to the point were I have been crying in pain to the doctors, codeine makes me ill morphine same , nepoxin, strong ibuprofen, it makes me want to pass out ,she said I use a knife and fork which I dont , and I told her that , have disabled ones but carnt use them as there too heavy and my wrist feels like it's going to brake, it swells twice the swells and it throbs like mad I were a split, iv seen 2 specialists and awaiting to see another , my 10 year old daughter washes my hair , she asked me how long it takes me I said I didn't know I have never timed it but said longer thsn a normal person , I showed her my left hand how I carnt use my little finger and csrnt touch thumb to little finger , she saw my knuckles swollen ,I carnt grip with my right I'm right handed, I had to go through occupational heath at work and move departments to something were I can sit rest hold on to something and no lifting to be fair no to very little work as I carnt do it but assesser put completey diffrent , I bath 3 times a week with no aids or help or rest and takes me 10 mins .
No mention of looking at my hands or feet , I use a cup with a lid on as I carnt feel if I'm holding it or if somethings hot , carnt use a pen I have to try and use my left hand, texting left hand , she said I could text but she never asked that question ,
I carnt cook and I don't, I carnt dress properly , i couldn't put my socks on that morning cos,
It was too painful, I can get down but struggle to get back up my knees give way , she asked how many times I get dressed , I said I don't unless I'm going to work and my daughter helps me , the rest of the time I stay in pjs as I don't see the point in stressing myself out or struggling to dress, she asked me when do I change my pj I said not often I can stay days in my pjs but put on assessment dresses every day with no help , I'm devastated I don't understand how it's possible to be do far from the truth

I worked all my life struggled on kept going regardless of the pain , at some point your body just says no no more , thsts just my right hand not how the compnation of the rest ,peple don't understand hidden illnesses , brain fog when you carnt remember things and oeole think your stupid but your not , Teath out due to constant jaw infections cos your blood is megloblasic bad blood don't get stuff from food you have it pumped into you every 12 weeks , your liver doesn't work your skin and eyes are yellow

It doesn't just affect you it affects everyone , it affects your life , your family life your relationship your kids , work
My kids are 11 and 12 I carnt take them out , no holidays no days at the park no walks nothing , i dont go anywere at all apart from work which i littlery get picked up from my frout door and drooped off at my front door ,you carnt do normal relationship cos you carnt do those things that makes a normal relationship, you by a dryer kids put clothes in kids tske them out kids put clothes away ,washing pots you carnt do it you by a dishwasher kids put pots in kids take them out kids put them away , they clean there own rooms they hover, the rest of the house gets left , you carnt decorate , you have to pay someone to do it , bins your nabours do it ,garden you have to pay some one to do it kids don't want to do these things but know mom carnt , they ask are you going to eat today , answer no cos you carnt be botherd sitting there struggling in pain to try and cut your food up, shower no you don't want go get undresses or dresses back in your pjs , it's not worth the hassle or pain , esting is pointless as you don't get anything from food anyways ,i hate food i hate eating ,you by food that you don't have to prepare sandwiches for school sausage rolls anything ready cooked ,cos you csrnt use your hands, and its less painful , kettle don't use it by one that does it for you ,you don't have to try and pick a kettle up , try and tip it with your left arm and burn yourself , use a sippy cup its safer ,
Heating on day and night all the time cos you are cold, you don't bother going for checkups or blood tests cos when you do there's always something elce , you get to a point were the doctors are constantly ringing you to go for your jab but you just carnt face it , but know you have to in the end if you don't will end up dieing , you stop taking your medication as you just carbt face taking another pill ,you stop looking after yourself you don't have a life you don't sleep cos your leg burns and feels like it's braking , your hand hurts and thobs you bend down but carnt get up your knees give way, you have days were your hole body hurts , carnt think or carnt remember words ,you feel stupid and basically usless as a woman and parent knowing your kids only have you to rely on , you applied for pip because it was the right thing to do because I dint want to carry on putting on my kids I don't want to stop working I have done everything I can to keep a job , you get some at work telling you don't you think you should leave cos you carnt do the job or your always off or you never do any work ,or there's always something wrong with you , just want you want to hear , as if it's my fault I didn't ask for any of this no one does , all the above I said to the assesser ,broke down in tears basically poored my heart out , was Total honest how the impact of multiple diagnosed illnesses, hiw its affected every part of my life , now and it's not going to get any better at all, just worse,
How can I appel when I carnt wright I never filled the form in someone had to do it for me, this took hours to text by my left hand non of the above was in the assessment assesser put
I can eat 3 meals a day thzts what the asseser put ,
I dress every day
Can cook and prepare food
Has all movement in both hands and arms
Can maintain medication
I can shower 3 times a week with no aids or help no rest inbetween.
Can eat with a knife and fork
Goes out regularly
Can dress by herself .
Can travel by herself.
I scored nothing not 1 point .

Good morning. Welcome to the forum from another newbie.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Please don't take it personally. I know the assessor says they're "independent" but they have a multi-million pound contract with the DWP, so the "assessment" is weighed against you from the moment you go into the room. Things that go against you include:

Replying "I'm fine thanks" when they ask you how you're doing today (you've literally just said you're fine, so you must be - doesn't matter that it's human nature).
Getting up straight away when they call your name (testing your hearing)
Reading a book or newspaper while you wait (concentration)
Just being able to walk over to them,
Travelling by yourself to the assessment centre (you can drive/use public transport/plot a route/arrive on time)
Wearing make up and and styling your hair (take pride in your appearance)
Spontaneously smiling or laughing (not depressed)
Even having a child with you goes against you, because if you can look after a child, you can look after yourself.
Having hobbies
Doing the assessment form yourself

Basically, if you're a vibrant, complete human being, you're more than likely to have to have to fight for what they say you're entitled to.

To say it's awful is an understatement. They are... well, I'm sure you'll have a few choice words of your own.

Next step is to ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration. If that fails, you go on to appeal. It's disheartening, it's stressful, it makes you want to give up - and that is exactly what they're depending on. Most decisions are overturned at appeal, if not at Mandatory Reconsideration, so don't give up.

I had my assessment last week. I didn't even claim until I was emotionally ready for a battle with them.

You're not alone. It's not you. It's them.

Hi,

You need to put away the decision letter and the assessment report (if you have a copy) and forget about them because this isn't going to get you a PIP award.

Wetrooms, radiator in every room, lowered cupboards, house work, washing pots/pans, are not considered in the PIP descriptors.

You've said you can't cook but why can't do this, just telling them you can't do an activity isn't going to help. Why does your daughter wash your hair, just telling them you can't do this isn't helpful.

What you need to do is state where and why you think you should have scored those points. Then include a couple of real world incidents of what happened that last time you attempted that activity for each descriptor that applies to you. Include detailed information such as where you were, what exactly happened, did anyone see it and what the consequences were.

Although PIP isn't about your ability to work, if the work you do contradicts the reasons why you're claiming PIP then it can go against you.

The majority of people claim PIP successfully, without any problems, we just don't often hear the good stories because if someone's had a decision they're happy with they have no questions to ask, so we don't hear their story.

Hi , I did , 2 and a half hours of explaning why , but what I carnt understand is why the report what the lady said is completely diffrent and things in there that she never even asked me , at no point did I say it takes me 10 mins to shower at no point did I say I wash on my own or I shower 3 times a week or dint have adaptations or don't have help , and explained why and showed her my hands and feet , so why lie that's just one eve says I dont have diagnosis but of course I do ,
I rang pip up about the assesser and appealed it , adked fir the assesers report , if it goes to court I'm more than happy to sit there with a solicitor or citizen advice, the hole process has left me totally devastated emotionally messed up , again had to go through it all, im also taking the report to my doctors and hospital for them to read and ask them to comment in wrighting ,

Too long , carnt grip pans etc my wrist gives way carnt feel due to never damage and issue damage and deformed feet which like I said now my skin is cutting into my scares, assesern I thought the best way is fir the asseser to see fisicly, i asked pip why this isn't in the report they said it shouod have been, I can bend down but carnt get up again my knees give way and is extremely painful, I don't eat everyday, I carnt use a knife and fork I have the disabled ones but there too heavy and I have a known medical history of eating disorder, i have a sippy cup that at times have soup in , asser said I eat 2 times a day and use a knife send fork , eating is stressful and frustrating and painful

I didn't travel on my own or go on my own , although in the report it said I did , as it was early , my daughter helped me get partly dressed , I don't have clothes I had to use hers , becouse i were pjs as said I'm the height of a 12 year old I couldn't manage socks, or pants or to do my hair and I dint were any makeup I couldn't put it on
But asser but can dress every day

The assessment is not there for them to write word for word what you said. It's there to gather more evidence to support your claim. When they write the report it's their opinion based on everything you sent and what you said during the assessment.

Please also remember that a Tribunal is not a court, you are not on trial and you don't need a solicitor. It's a Tribunal for a benefit claim, which is totally different. If that was true then what I said and all the evidence to support my clame would be in the report, and what I said would be in the report but its not , thete also wouldn't be comments and assements of things they never even asked , when I say it's completely different to to my medical history what I saidim not lieing , that's why I asked for the full report, you expect professional peple to tell the truth, I keep reading it and my brain carnt take it in on medical grounds alone it flaws the assessment , there's nothing in the assessment that I actually said

No, that's not correct sorry. It's not their job to write what you said word for word. if it was then there would be no point in having the assessment in the first place.

I rang the assessment place, they were able to tell me that the assessmer clearly put what I said ,and read a few things , and not what is in the pip decision form , from the asser to the pip decision the assement Completly changed
And no they don't put word for word but like I say there's nothing in the pip decision thzts actually correct it doesn't say in the assessment report I shower 3 times a week its says 1 to maybe 2 pip assesser says I shower 3 times ,every part is wrong or made to look like I don't need help or can do these things which is not true

You need to move on from the assessment period as i previously advised a few times. Concentrating on the report is not going to get you a PIP award. If it gets to Tribunal it could damage your case.

I know it just makes me more mad and upset , the appel is in so I just need to wait , I know I'm rating I'm not nirmaly like that but it got to me , hofuly it won't get to that point and I'll be assent properly ,if it does go to a hearing then I'll 100 precent get assesst properly carnt hide from the truth fingers crossed i can get my mmr scans and a more up-to-date bone scan ,soon i rang the doctors fir a update, they gave me more naprixen ibuprofen I'll just have to take them and be sick i dint want morphine jabs I pass out

Well, for what it's worth, I think the odds are stacked against us, personally. I've heard of people with cancer being refused PIP. Someone I know with CP had to appeal 3 times to get DLA - her feet are turned inward. My mum has a catalogue of conditions, she was awarded 4 points, so she had to appeal. Two people I know, or know of who have heart failure were refused and had to appeal too.

These are all anecdotal, I know but I've never heard of a single person getting PIP first time round, not unless they went to somewhere like Citizen's Advice for help filling in the form.

However, you do need to put the form away and forget about it. Concentrate on the mandatory reconsideration and, if it goes that far, the appeal.

I got pip first time and also at review both enhanced rate on both components without the help of anyone

Those you quote you need to bear in mind pip isn't about a diagnosis or a condition but about ability to do the tasks in the descriptors

Some of the conditions you mentioned may not prevent somebody being able to bath , toilet , eat , cook , walk , communicate, read , finances etc which pip is based on

I was extremely upset when i posted ,I still am , thankyou for the comments just being able to i suppose rant and put what's in my head ,frustration etc to be listened too helps, I have put the form away , bit o would like to make a few points ,
At times I have been on anti depressants, and beater blockers for anxiety and depression, was in my doctors note ,sent off with the pip paperwork ,I didn't fill it in myself as I carnt hold a pen or wright says in the letter , no diagnosis of depression hence awarded 0 points , diagnosis of,also ,on the doctors note acute ongoing

There just a few ,so no its on back and white in the pip letter , no diagnosis no points

PIP isn't about a diagnosis, as has been advised. What matters is how those conditions affect you against the 12 PIP activities.
