Hello @Spitfire22, thanks for introducing yourself, welcome to the online community :)

    how are you this evening?

This is a very supportive and welcoming site to be a part of so I’m hopeful that you’ll find it to be a positive outlet. Feel free to have a look around and get involved wherever you’d like 😊 I have included below a few of the pages I’d recommend having a look through to get used to things:

    • The virtual coffee lounge which is one of our categories, in which we play games and talk about general subjects such as hobbies and interests
    • The recent discussions page, which shows an overview of everything happening across the community
    • The categories page, which shows a full list of discussion groups on the community

If you have any questions at all then don’t hesitate to ask.

    Hi Tori,

    Thank you for your message.
Nice to meet you, and along with everyone else.

I hope that you had a better weekend than I did.
Last Friday (10.06.22), I was let go from a company, had only been there a week, as was still in training, so now with no job, I have got to see what benefits I am entitled to claim, until I can find work, never had to claim before, so this is all new to me

Hi @Spitfire22 thanks for updating us, I'm so sorry to hear what's happened. Did they explain why they were letting you go? If you feel you have been unfairly dismissed you can challenge this decision, Citizens Advice have guidance on how to check this.

A good place to see what benefits you are entitled to is Turn 2 Us, they have a benefits calculator you can use. If you need a hand with applying to any benefits or have any questions, you are more than welcome to ask here on the forum, and we'll do what we can to help.

    Hi Alex,

    Thank you for your message.

I hope that you are ok.
The company just told me that they didn't think that I was capable of doing the job, only had one week's training, as you are supposed to have 2 week's training, as advertised in job advert.

Called up DWP earlier on, applied for ESA, was also told need to claim universal credit online too, told my wife will also need to claim it too, my wife is early medically retired and only getting a small company pension. I am only getting pip, wife gets no other benefits.

Will need to see what I can do about rent, if I can get any help with that (rent from council), also Council Tax, or if entitled to any other benefits (if so like what), pension credit etc

If you're of working age you won't be able to get pension credit until you're also retirement age. Your UC would be a joint claim and you can get help with your rent through there

Went to fill in for UC online earler on, for myself and my wife, having problems with the gateway to confirm identity for my wife. Will get there in the end

I think if you can't do the gateway ID then they will ask you to take ID to the job centre, is she able to do that?
