I got backdated PiP in Dec 2020 I received £17,000 around March April last year I’ve read some posts on able to have this for 52 weeks then I have to tell housing…I didn’t know anything about this until tonight I’m worried I’ll have to pay full rent etc I’m trying to get it down but I get paid every month and that tops it’s up I’m currently at £15,000 which included the monthly payments I’m getting…please can anyone help0

That’s rather a large backpay. It will help to know the reason why it was this amount. Was it because you waited a long time for a Tribunal decision or another reason?0

It was over 2 years appeal after appeal took a while but I’m patient lol0

It would only have been disregarded for 1 year from the date you receive the payment into your bank. Only official errors of payments of over £5,000 are disregarded for the life of the claim. You will need to report the changes for all means tested benefits you're claiming. This will include council tax reduction if you're claiming this. Do be aware that some local Authorities have a maximum savings limit of £6,000 for council tax reduction. For housing benefit there's a £1/week deduction for every £250 or part there of over £6,000.If you claim any other means tested benefits such as ESA/JSA or Income Support then you will need to report the changes to them also.0

Good morning @alison51 and welcome tot he community, how are you today?
Thanks for joining us and telling us about your situation. I hope the useful information provided above by Poppy has been helpful to you, although I recognise that it must be a stressful situation.
It certainly looks as though it took a while for you to finally receive your PIP, how did you find that long, drawn out process? It can't have been easy to go through. This is a very supportive and welcoming site to be a part of so I’m hopeful that you’ll find it to be a positive outlet. Feel free to have a look around and get involved wherever you’d like 😊 I have included below a few of the pages I’d recommend having a look through to get used to things:
- The virtual coffee lounge which is one of our categories, in which we play games and talk about general subjects such as hobbies and interests
- The recent discussions page, which shows an overview of everything happening across the community
- The categories page, which shows a full list of discussion groups on the community
If you have any questions at all then don’t hesitate to ask.
