Hi @sarahjane22
Welcome to the online community, it's lovely to see you join us.
Thank you for creating your first discussion, it's great to see you getting involved right away. I have moved it over to our Universal Credit category and edited the title a bit. How have you found the process so far? It seems as though you have had quite a long time to wait. This is a very supportive and welcoming site to be a part of so I’m hopeful that you’ll find it to be a positive outlet. Feel free to have a look around and get involved wherever you’d like 😊 I have included below a few of the pages I’d recommend having a look through to get used to things:
- The virtual coffee lounge which is one of our categories, in which we play games and talk about general subjects such as hobbies and interests
- The recent discussions page, which shows an overview of everything happening across the community
- The categories page, which shows a full list of discussion groups on the community
If you have any questions at all then don’t hesitate to ask.

There's a full 3 month assessment period waiting time and the extra money is paid from the 4th month after you reported your health condition. It's not paid at all during this time. When it's paid from exactly will depend on the exact date you reported your health condition and the dates of your assessment periods (AP) or when you usually receive you payment each month. You will be owed the difference between carers element and LCWRA element, if you were claiming carers element for the whole time.Money owed is paid separately to your usual monthly amount.1

Thank you x I was worried I might owe them money thank you x0

The LCWRA element is worth more than the carers element so they owe you.

Before they can pay what they owe you they will need to recalculate your past statements. This will then tell them what you should have been paid against what you have already been paid. You will then receive the difference between the 2.Once this is done you'll receive a letter on your journal telling you how much they owe you.The new statements will replace your exisiting ones so if you want to keep them you need to take screenshots.1

Thank you x0

Hi I’ve just had my out come and the UC have just left a msg on my journal saying I am not owed any back pay as my award was given on the 8th August 2022 but in fact I’ve been giving them sick notes since September 2021, so they are only paying me from the day I had my medical I’ve been waiting for a assessment since December when I sent my form back so Think that is not right0
-
If there were no gaps in your fit notes then the extra money should be paid from the 4th month, as advised above. Can i just check that you're not claiming UC with a partner that already receives the LCWRA?If not then you can request the Mandatory Reconsideration of the decision not to apply it from the date you reported your health condition. Also mention the LCWRA which is payable from the 4th month after this.0

Thank you I have x my caseworker did say it would take time and was looking into this but Iv just got a msg on today saying medical assessment 8/8/22 so only paid from then x so don’t understand now one says one thing the other different and no gaps and no partner x0

This was your first work capability assessment and you didn't previously have LCW? If so then you will need to request the MR as advised above. You can do that on your journal.

I had assessment two years ago and was in the LCW but I got poorly again worst so I reported my health and so started to send sick notes in from September 2021, then in December 2021 I git the assessment form filled it in and that was that I kept calling to get a appointment I got one but not till 8th August 2022, and was granted the OTHER group LCWRA then my August UC HAD FIRST PAYMENT of the extra rate my case worker told me it would take time for him to look at and have it checked, no notes on about why or dates not a thing so I will have to call which is no good as no one can tell you anything just say put a note in your journal x0

OK, i didn't realise that because you didn't didn't mention it. Not that it matters here but it does affect when the LCWRA element is paid from. As you already had LCW then there's no waiting period. When you report a change in health condition the decision should take affect from the assessment period in which you reported the changes. (Sept 2021)Therefore the advice for what to say for the MR is different. You need to tell them what date exactly you reported the changes. (i assume you must have done that) Then tell them that because you reported the changes and it prompted another assessment then tell them when the extra money is paid from.1

Thank you will keep you updated x0
