I think it the 4 point receptor will have to changed , because the daily living is what allows a carer and carers allowance , so this is going to be a double whammy and will put pressure on adult social care etc to provide carers .

I hope the whole thing will be scrapped and leave us alone .

I've just read some of the green paper and honestly they are citing research from 2006 to make their arguments, this is before things like, energy price rise, cost of living, covid, and the 2008 financial austerity of 14 years.

I honestly think they've done this paper based on London which is a thriving city full of investment. The rest of the country has no jobs. Zero hours contract warehouse jobs 8 hours of heavy lifting for minimum wage is not good for health or people on disability. They have based it off of London city centre and except everyone one else to go along with it.

I think that plan has been defeated, but it feels like the powers that be are playing all their cards . In the end 'they will own nothing and we will be happy'

‘signed up’ to programmes to support them with health or other barriers to getting a decent job."

So basically they are saying you will be put on a 'work programme' which already exists now for jobseekers. They will make you agree to a attend work programmes which could last 1 week to a few years. And if you do not attend you know what will happen if you don't go along with it.

I can’t say with certainty how many people will be impacted, but I’m absolutely sure the true number will far surpass what the government will acknowledge. To me, this feels like a direct attack on the sick, disabled, and most vulnerable in our society. As the saying goes, in any conflict, the first casualty is always the truth. While I have no concrete evidence, it’s clear to me that the figures will be manipulated to serve their agenda.

Im with you Catherine, I've 'hit rock bottom' too. Feeling hopeless and fearful !

The stress has flared my crohns and lupus, and i collapsed after an emergency dental appointment yesterday...ended up losing my phone.... ..I'm trying my best to be positive but the stress has nearly 'taken me out'.

Hugs to you Catherine and everyone else on this forum, we have to stick together !!!!

This forum has kept me going during the toughest times,so thankyou to you all.

    Much love and hugs.

there is also now strong evidence about the types of support that can improve the employment prospects of disabled people and people with a health condition.

They can't even get people on jobseekers working, how will they the disabled? No clue what they are doing whatsoever. Doesn't make sense at all.

Catherine, even if the impact statement shows 2 million people will be affected, the government might still decide to go ahead. It depends on how they balance their priorities and respond to any backlash.

To be honest, I don’t think we’ve seen anything quite like this before when it comes to changes to benefits. Perhaps someone else might recall a similar situation where it didn’t go through. Let’s hope for more clarity after the impact statement tomorrow.

To me, this is a moral and ethical issue, but there is also a strong economic and business case why these proposed cuts should not go ahead, as they will indirectly threaten employers businesses, especially with the privatising of the NHS, as employers would have to take on support staff to help disabled people in the workplace and it would also threaten the jobs of those already in employment, including but not limited to, employers massively increased operating costs and could very well see existing employees taxes massively rise, removing the incentive to work for many, able bodied and disabled alike - there are also so many workplace laws that employers have to comply with, such as health and safety laws and employing a disabled person or someone with a mental health condition or hidden disability could be in breach of these many laws - disabled people and those on benefits still contribute to the U.K. economy and it would be incredibly foolish to cut benefits to sick and disabled people, even more so if the government tried to scrap the benefits system altogether, which some have suggested the government appear to be moving towards

Yes, Sarah! , but maybe a dedicated/different thread, perhaps. There are many scriptures that give comfort, and I read an app Bible verse before dropping to sleep! - but wake up about 3 am to take my headphones off! 🙄

Edit: not just verse of the day, but a thought of the day. A great one was this - to someone in “dark” places: John Milton found great treasures in the darkness of his blind-ness and said “Sometimes a dark tunnel is the shortest way around a hill ”
