Just because they can do it does not mean as yet it's enshrined in stone. The point I wanted to make was to counter the idea that this is a done deal and once it becomes law we have no avenue through which to improve or fight back.

In the unlikely event that the Government collapsed and there was a GE, I think a hung parliament would be the most likely outcome. There would probably be a coalition of several parties that might include a very different Labour Party.
Far more, likely is that a sizable rebellion could deliver a change of Chancellor and fiscal policy.

A Government can be in power for five years but there's usually an election before then. The last Tory Government could have gone on another five months.

The chancellor said it was "not the right analogy" when she was asked about the chief secretary to the Treasury's comments on LBC Radio.But she added: "My children and the chief secretary's children are too young, but if you have a 16-year-old and you say, 'you know what I'm not going to give you so much pocket money. I want you to go out to work'.
"And then the [Office for Budget Responsibility] does an impact assessment and says your child is going to be worse off - well, they're going to be worse off if they don't go and get themselves a Saturday job.
"But if they do go and get themselves a Saturday job, they'll probably be better off and they probably might enjoy it as well.
"Now, that's not the right analogy, but there are lots of people who have a disability that are desperate to work."

Sorry folks I can't engage more fully with you all right now, tremor's pretty bad. But thought you'd all be interested in this petition, put out by Richard Burgon MP. The petition calls for tax increases for the mega-rich instead of punishing us. You can find the link here:
Gov's own figures show it won't just push us into abject poverty, there'll be at least 50,000 kids too. Labour promised in the election campaign to end childhood poverty. No-one voted Labour for this. Reeves is being true to Osborne's playbook: austerity++ and casting us as shirkers as she does.

Not one for posting links to GB News but this piece regarding legal challenges to the Welfare cuts / reforms gives some hope - particularly for those suffering from mental health illnesses who will - as things currently stand - be disproportionately affected by changes to PIP and UC Health

WHY aren’t journalists holding them to account more?
Yes there have been some who are speaking out against the cuts and some asking uncomfortable questions to the frontbenchers, but why is no one actually holding them to account and pressing them on it? It’s what journalism is for.
Instead of just letting them dodge questions about how harmful the cuts are with “disabled people MUST WORK” and then not going further into it, why aren’t they interrogating them over it?

I'm pretty sure that we have very highly skilled construction workers , so why the need to hire them from abroad ? give the work to our people after all isn't that what reeves wants .

My pip review Has been with dwp since September 24, my current award runs out May 25, had 2 texts telling me they still have my pip form and will be progressing the review as soon as they can. My blue badge is due for renewal may 25, I can't apply for that until I get my review decision.
Will my review be under the current guidance as new assessment not starting until 2026? Where do I stand with my blue badge renewal can anyone help?

- Managed Migration:This process involves the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) contacting individuals receiving legacy benefits and informing them that they must claim Universal Credit to continue receiving financial support.
- Migration Notice:You'll receive a letter, known as a "migration notice," outlining the deadline by which you need to claim Universal Credit to avoid a gap in payments.
- Not a New Claim: While you need to make a claim for Universal Credit, it's not a new claim in the sense of applying for a completely new benefit. It's a continuation of your support, just under a different system.
- Transitional Protection:If you are issued a migration notice, you are eligible for transitional protection, which can include a transitional element (a payment added to your Universal Credit entitlement if you receive more from your previous tax credits or benefits) and a transitional capital disregard (allowing you to claim Universal Credit with savings and investments over £16,000 for 12 assessment periods if you received tax credits).
