I have battled Mental Health for over 41 years, things never get any easier to say the least, but if you wake up in the morning and draw a breath and even if you just chuck on PJโs, itโs a small win. Iโve not worked for coming up to five years after having a huge breakdown due to the covid pandemic and my work as a Support Worker, fair to say my marriage suffered greatly due to this! I was brave enough to sign into my local hospital as I was intent on taking my own life in 2023 when my ex dumped me! But Iโve got through an even bigger breakdown, and will have proved doubters wrong that I can live on my own, keep on top of my flat alongside bills to. Itโs just nice to have my own space, where I donโt have to care what anyone thinks or says about me. Mental Health Support in this country is severely lacking which infuriates me! Iโve had to put official complaints in about the lack of support and treatment Iโve received since December 2023. Someone put on record that my Depression and Boarderline Personality Disorder was in remission when I received the results of the official complaint! Fair to say it was like red rag to a bull. I was having counselling and regular phone calls with a social prescriber until the end of October, then they both upped and left and Iโve been on the waiting lists since! The mental health team keep saying about group activities, but they donโt get that when I state they are not good for me as I donโt do well in a group setting and have social service records to prove it! Then they sent two Otโs around of which I didnโt want due to the previous mental health team placing me with an OT and she was having to do her work and that of the Psychologists as well which was a disgrace. But these two that came around took the biscuit, one was experienced and the other was a trainee with stabilisers attached! When I mentioned about the counselling, she said โHow long do you expect to be on the waiting list forโ ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ then she turned around and said โWhose your support networkโ I just turned around deadpan and said โ ME and Me alone!โ But inside I was doing my best Muttley Impression and also angry Donald Duck to!! Iโm going to put money to one side to save up to be able to adopt a suitable young dog to train up to be my Assistance Dog as the fees some places want are ludicrous to say the least!

Hi @Grumpy1314 Thank you for sharing your story. I am sorry you have had such a difficult time. Dogs are wonderful companions and well worth saving up for.
Take care of yourself.

Thank You for your kind words ๐ I look at each challenge and obstacle Iโve overcome as steps along the way. I have them all stored in individual boxes and work on one box at a time, then move onto the next. The challenges we face over our lifetime, shape us and make us stronger for having those obstacles placed in our way.

I got my fifi 15 years ago ! I was in a bad bad place she's been through the ups and downs I never felt or feel alone with fifi and now have pixie as well they do give you a reason to get out of bed well done for making it on your own I have bpd and I know the pain of feeling abandoned just similar things myself so yes to be independent and not have to mask is liberating what breed would you get

I am not ready for another dog yet but really miss him. Toby was a pug but would have a change next time. Just a small dog. They are just so loving and give unconditional love.
