Universal credit.

Hi I am a carer for my adult autistic son who I help to live independently. I'm in my seventies and find it difficult with computers. My son went over to Universal credit in January, I'm just getting used to it. On his journal yesterday it says because his rent has increased his transitional payment has gone down by the exact amount.when I got in touch with them they said it was correct, his council tax has increased too. So he is £20 a month worse off. Can someone please help me out with this issue. Thanks

Yes that is correct. Transitional Protection is designed so at the time of transfer you aren't worse off than on legacy benefits. This erodes over time.
Any increase in other elements reduces TP by a corresponding amount.
Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level, with each local authority setting their own rules. Because of this it's very hard to advise on individual cases from here.
