Suspect our son has ADHD, any advice?

Both me and my husband are in our 40s and have ADHD, our son is 5 and we also think he may have it. The lack of sleep we both recieve is just awful,and is severly effecting all our mental health. We have asked for support from drs and other professionals but nothing seems to help him, we are at a total loss and need some help.

    Lack of sleep can definitely effect your mental health so it is very understandable why you feel this way.

    Has the GP started the ADHD referral process for your son? Or has school?

    What strategies have you tried so far?

    Trust your gut. It's the best advice I have and if I'd have gotten my son in for assessment sooner he would have received appropriate structured support through school and wouldn't be facing sitting his GCSE'S without having all the tools that could have been provided for him mover those years.

    You can request assessment via Right to Choose. It's not ideal without your GP and school support, however you can still access the referral process and even provide your GP with a letter (template at the bottom of the link below) should they refuse your right to choose.

    I think they won't consider ADHD assessment until your son turns 6, but request right to choose at that point.
