LCWRA Reviews

LCWRA Reviews apparently have been stopped however i am told only new claims or change of circumstances are going ahead supposedly there is a huge backlog for LCWRA Reviews and if I am told correctly goes back years so when would everything resume.

They haven't been stopped completely for LCWRA, but as resources have been focused on new claims & changes of circumstances, very few LCWRA reviews have taken place since the pandemic leading to a large backlog.
No one knows when they will resume at scale, although I believe they are mentioned in the Green Paper released last month.
Perhaps there is someone on that discussion more up to speed than I am

If there is a huge backlog that green paper won't matter it could take years to catchup on the backlog and they don't have that many staff to deal with this.

I read on the PDF for the Spring Statement I think it was, that the reassessments will begin in April or after April next year.

The green paper doesn't mean thing it's not written in stone it has to go through parliament first it has to be voted on and the way things are going Labour lost big in the local elections if I were the PM I would resign.

The backlog will have increased even more by then they will never catch up

So people will have to wait till April 2026 some would have been due this year so instead it will be next year instead is that right?

April 2026 is when LCWRA reviews resume due to a backlog their only doing new claims or change of circumstances it states LCWRA reviews resume April 2026 in the green paper which isn't written in stone debates are still happening up to June 30th 2025 it has to be voted on also Labour aren't exactly flavour of the month they lost the local election so they will need to win back votes again if they were to win a general election Labour ma's are going to be voting against it there is a rebellion the green paper is what it is it isn't a law its a proposal of what the government is pledging this has to be passed through parliament and yes starmer was a lawyer but doesn't mean he can influence the system he's not a layer anymore he is facing rebellion from his own people he says people voted for change yes they did but not the change he is implementing i have signed the petition on this asinine reform their now proposing this 22bn black hole in don't think exists.

Not only will the WCA reassessment start from April 2026, but also, the number of Face-to-Face assessments in PIP and WCA will be increased.
Sorry to add to anxiety.

Hello @Passerby
The Labour policy for WCA reassessments to restart from April 2026 which is mentioned in that Spring Statement table, published in March this year - isn't that for all reassessments generally? I thought Liz Kendall also said in her speech that they would start to ramp up reassessments but initially only target those who have had short term awards (cancer, pregnancy risk) and then as they gain more capacity with the assessment providers also target those who have LCWRA/ESA Support group awarded under 'substantial risk'. Or, are the initially targeted groups also not intended to be reassessed before April 2026?
I realise it's only a government policy as part of their green paper, so still has to be voted on. I haven't seen many, if any, posts anywhere about WCA reassessments happening at the moment for LCWRA/ESA Support group, though.1 -
While some Green Paper proposals might require changes to primary legislation (laws passed by Parliament), others, can be implemented through secondary legislation (regulations made under existing laws) or even through administrative changes within the DWP. When to restart reassessments is one of the changes that do not require any new legislation.

April 2026 however the way it's going don't hold your breath this government are taking the '****' Liz kendal says that the bill will go through regardless of the way the vote goes 🙄 the whole point of the vote is to see how many people agree or disagree we have been lied to we were promised change but what did we get instead a government that's a complete joke starmer is a dangerous clown 🤡 parasites the lot of them people will end up commuting suicide I urge you to sign the petition that's out there we need 10,000 signatures so far there are 8,756 signatures

Thanks @Passerby
Interesting to know that if the government have decided to restart WCA reassessments from April next year, they can simply do so. That makes sense. I'm wondering, though, if that includes the initially targeted reviews of short term awards and substantial risk claims. Did I misunderstand what Kendall's speech said about that - that they intend to target those claims imminently or will those wait till April next year too?
I wonder if they actually have the capacity to start reassessing much before April next year anyway. The backlogs for new claims and reassessing change of circumstances for LCW/ESA WRAG that they have been doing are still huge, I understand. Reassessment of LCWRA/ESA Support group will surely have to go on the backburner if they're planning to abolish the WCA by 2028. In the meantime, the targeted reassessments of LCWRA/ESA Support group claims Kendall talked about are 'low hanging fruit.' She's hoping to kick them off the benefit or downgrade their awards to make savings where she can.0
