my parter works and I have a 1 (will be 2 at the end of the year) old and I’m desperate to get back to work. I can’t afford childcare and both our parents work.. we claim UC and they said that they would cover up to 85% of childcare costs if I was to go back to work.. at the moment I’m only getting around £20-£40 from UC due to my parters earnings.. if I was to start work the payments would most likely stop making us ineligible for UC.. does this mean that I can’t apply for the help with childcare?? What’s the point????

Hi @emie and welcome to the community 😊 There are still options for childcare support for parents not claiming benefits. There's even potential for free support if you utilise "approved childcare". hi @Holly_Scope i have had a look and it says I can only get funded child care in my area if the household income is under £850 a month which it is not as my partner works :(

I'm so sorry to hear that @emie. Is tax free an option? Appreciate it's not ideal - childcare is so expensive!

hi @Mary_Scope my little one is hitting kicking and screaming a lot and every time I try to talk to him to tell him that’s not okay he continues to do it (I know he’s too young to understand) sometimes I end up shouting but that just makes him laugh and do it more.. I’ve had the health visitor and a nursery nurse come out to give me advice but nothing seems to help.. I’m at my whitts end I feel like I’ve not had a chance to calm down from being angry and overwhelmed coz I don’t get a minute to myself..

Thank you for telling me a bit about your situation @emie. It sounds like a very stressful situation so I understand why you're feeling really overwhelmed! It can be a difficult stage because at this age they’re still learning how to manage big emotions and they often act out physically because they don’t yet have the words!

What strategies have you tried so far and how are you doing? Do you have any support around you or people you can talk to?
