hi my husband claimed CA for me as my carer he stopped claiming on 22nd August up till he got his pip at standard rate, and has now applied for new style esa ,he’s been told that because he’s on pips he will go into the support group.I also get pips but enhanced on both, I’m also in the support group. Can claim disability premium or severe disability premium as nobody will be claiming carers allowance for either of us. we was told to apply for universal credit but we are around £12 per month over the limit. We both have small private pensions husband is 4 weekly £400 every four weeks and mine is monthly, last working day of the month £511.00. I am in the support group and all though we have a claim with universal credit they’ve never paid us anything towards our rent nor council tax but we do have council tax reduction. I’m really confused about all this benefits and all my pension pays the council tax and our rent every four weeks.

Please advise me what I should be getting as we are getingnothing but yet the sites turn to us is saying we should be entitled to £600+ every month

Hi @Ang1336, unfortunately only those on means tested benefits can claim for the disability premiums. New style ESA is not a means tested benefit, so you wouldn't be eligible for this.

Do you own your own house or are you renting at the moment?

Have you spoken to a benefits adviser at all? They can be really helpful as they're able to take a look at all your details and give you professional advice on what you'd be able to claim. It's a bit more comprehensive than the calculators that you can do online. There's a database to search for local support here if that's something that would interest you: https://advicefinder.turn2us.org.uk/

I’m on new style esa and in the support group,we rent our home from the council at 115.00 every week. My husband and myself are on pips me at enhance rate for both elements and my husband receives standard rate in care.

How is Turn2Us saying you should be getting £600+ per month?

The calculators are only as good as the information being input into them, a trained welfare rights advisor can help with a more accurate calculation.

As Rosie advised the premiums you mentioned are not payable with PIP or NS ESA.

Your husband was advised incorrectly, he will have to go through the Work Capability Assessment process to be awarded Support Group, his PIP award won't count towards eligibility for New Style ESA.
