My understyanding is 'UC guidance' does NOT require:• merchant names• transaction descriptions• account numbers• BIC/IBAN• card numbers• personal spending details. Unless, maybe fraud is suspected and if so, they should inform the claimant. I Obscured only what is NOT required

For anyone interested, the DWP’s own internal training manual on capital (UC07GEN) was released under FOI. It explains 'what staff are trained to check when verifying capital.' It does NOT require personal spending details, merchant names, or transaction descriptions.

    You can find it here:

The UC07GEN Capital training manual (released under FOI)https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/universal_credit_training_manual

explains what DWP staff are trained to check when verifying capital. It lists the required information — balances, amounts, dates, and ownership.

It does NOT list account numbers, BIC, IBAN, card numbers, merchant names, or transaction descriptions as required items. These are not part of capital assessment and are not mentioned in the guidance.

That manual is dated July 2021.

These "compliance checks" started up a few years later.

So that particular manual might not be used to guide these checks. There might be something else which does allow them to ask the level of detail that they do. Or not 🤷🏼‍♀️
