Thanks, I will write them down.

I guess I was right to add to my journal that I didn't know dates of savings changes.

I will respond when I know more and see how goes from there, much appreciated

@OverlyAnxious Just a last thing before I leave it until they contact me.

Now that I think that I've probably been overpaid, I've read that after I know, I should contact them straight away

Do you think I should do this on Monday or just wait for response?

    Thanks again

@OverlyAnxious hi, I've heard nothing as of yet but everywhere I read it says to contact them asap.

The message in my journal I wrote was just to ask them to confirm the circumstances change and that I didn't know the specific date of change, also there never is one as it's gradual, doesn't just go up all on one day.

If I hadn't had the email to update what was in my accounts I'd still be going along with the same amount of money in the account that I had when I first transitioned over to UC 7 months ago.

    Thanks

Why would they make the OP pay back any overpayment when it was their fault the OP was overpaid in the ruddy first place? Madness!

The OP had over £6,000 in total, so they have been overpaid if that is the case. How is that the fault of the DWP?

yeh, i thought that, bricking it a bit, anxiety through the roof. Not good with this stuff

At the very least, you'll know the next time, that's assuming you failed to update your savings exceeding £6,000.

It's not easy for those dealing with hospital stays etc, some have quite enough to cope with already. In my own case, I spend every penny each month, I never manage to accumulate savings.

@ColonelBlink & @OverlyAnxious yes it's not easy when head is all over the place, i will for sure update regularly from now. So i've had a reply & they just said 'thanks for the update, your capital was verified by our system'.. So is that it with my overpayments or should i declare them in case anything crops up in future or just leave it.. 🙄

I would always recommend putting the date of change as 'today'.

So when you update savings in future on the last day of your AP, put that date down each time. It doesn't matter if savings go up or down in the middle of the AP for UC. It is only the final day that matters.

Now that you've declared you current savings, I would just forget about any past overpayments now. If they do ask for bank statements at any point then they'll recalculate it at that point.

Personally, I wouldn't be asking them to calculate any past overpayments now. You are of course welcome to do whatever you feel best though.

    Ok thanks.

I got the email to update my settings the day after my the last day of my AP and noticed today my usual amount went in so if I'd got the email on final day then this month's amount would have been less I guess.

The last day is the 7th so that will be the same each month so I'll adhere to alter on that day each month if that is correct. Even I think if it doesn't go over a £250 threshold.

Yes I will do that, just a bit of unease.

Also is that not necessarily it..The end of this situation. The journal entry said that it has been verified by their system.

    Thanks

You are correct. They could still ask for bank statements in future. But they could ask for statements at any time anyway.

There is no 'closure' with UC but we can't worry about it constantly. I now just accept that they will ask for something eventually (either bank statements or assessments or whatever) and I'll just have to deal with it when it happens.

Yes I know, when anxious it is constantly there especially after I now know I've made mistakes and that it will come back to haunt me at some point. . I've read that when finances are worked out they may contact again but as you say.

If I get a message I'll report back. Many thanks

@OverlyAnxious Just one last thing. If I start updating monthly from now on, wouldn't it be suspicious that I haven't done previous months as they can probably see I haven't.

As I didn't know I had to update monthly, I only updated because I got the email with question of funds in so would it be better to carry on not thinking I had to monthly?

I would have thought they would have contacted me over last months to see why I haven't updated seeing as I was over £6k if I had to.

    Just a thought. Thanks

As I say, you've got to do whatever you think is best.

If you don't update again then you'll end up with a bigger overpayment when you eventually get reviewed in future.

But I can see what you mean about it looking odd if you start updating now. You can always say you sought advice about updating savings after seeing the email and were told to start to start updating monthly after that. (Don't have to say where you got the advice).

If I start updating now onwards it will show that I know to update and know I didn't in past and not declared it. But if I carry on as before it is like me not knowing still that I have to..

I'm so unsure. They must be able to see my previous 7 months staying the same so if I must update monthly id have thought they'd have contacted me. If my money stays same monthly I wouldn't have to declare would I?.. unsure

    I think you're overthinking this. 🙂

If you start updating now, it just looks like the email triggered you to find out more about it.

Yes, they know you haven't updated savings before. But if you put dates of change within the last AP, then they do not know that your savings went up before that AP.

The person who confirmed your savings change in the journal was likely just generic journal staff looking at your account from their end. Not necessarily someone with good understanding of the savings process like the bank statement reviwers.

If your total savings stay within thee £250 thresholds on the final day of the AP then there is no change to declare. So if you can use all of your income, that is the least amount of hassle and stress. Sadly, I can't use all of mine due to circumstances beyond my control, so have to update it every month.

All I can really do is give you the legal side of this which is:

    A) Savings over £6000 must be declared when they go up or down through another £250 threshold.

    B) Those savings only matter on the final day of the AP.

It's up to you to choose whether to start updating now you know that. Or whether to just leave and keep going as before until UC say something.

Yes over thinking and not making decisions, that's anxiety for yer as probably know, I know you can't tell me what to do but probably looks that way, apologies.

Yes I get you words and that if I update within AP it's pointless however I googled and said that if over £6k you have to say your capital monthly anyway, even if no change.. maybe wrong and just the threshold as you say.

I just worried that if I start updating now regularly then they may think I should declare the 7 months I didn't, like I now know what I'm doing so I should inform them but not doing which is deliberate which isn't good if they find out.. I know you said forget the last months though but it's just if they think it's deliberate.

They may not say anything I don't know
