I am deciding whether to homeschool and wondered if you can give me some advice

Hi,

My son is year 8 with ASD & ADHD with mental health issues since July 2025. School performance & SEN provision has not been adequate and curriculum content concerning.

I am deciding whether to homeschool and wondered if you can give me some advice of your own journey? My son doesn’t have an EHCP. Don’t have any experience of online schools and costs and anything else you think. May be helpful for me to make a decision on next steps?

I am a single parent who works full time, from home.

    My son and daughter in law have home schooled theirs for the last four years and they're as bright as a button. Done em the world of good, their spelling and maths has come on in leaps and bounds. There's even a group of them that meet up locally.

    Homeschooling can be a big decision, both for you as a parent as well as your son. Hopefully some of our members who have made the decision to homeschool will be in touch soon and share their experiences,

    Local home education facebook groups can be quite a helpful starting point when it comes to home education and Scope also have some good information on homeschooling.

    There is also Education Otherwise who are a home education charity with a helpline so they may be helpful to reach out to for information and support as well as Educational Freedom who give free home education information and support in the UK
