Hi ,

I just needed some advice and guidance please. I have a severe stammer and severe anxiety, I get pip for this condition and I have applied for lcwra/lcw. I have my assessment In a few weeks time.
initially they gave me a telephone assessment but as it’s extremely difficult for me to speak over the phone we changed it to video assessment. I have extreme difficulty in all sorts of communication, if my speech is blocked due to my stammer my anxiety spikes up and I automatically freeze or panic in a lot of situations. My speech therapist has kindly accepted to accompany me in the assessment.
I’m not too sure what to expect in the assessment. I’ve heard a few things they try to trick you or catch you out and I’m so confused and worried about this. I’m obviously being truthful about my situation but these things still worry me.

Any advice or help would be great !

Hi @Muezza321 and a warm welcome to the community fomr me!

The time it takes to do the assessment can vary and during the assessment, the Professional will evaluate your form and supporting medical evidence by asking you questions.

They may also potentially request physical tasks but you have the right to refuse if they cause pain or discomfort. Once the assessment is complete, it generally takes several weeks to receive the DWP’s final decision regarding your case.

Scope have a webpage on the work capability assessment that I hope will be helpful!

It's good that you're able to take your speech therapist though, having somebody there as support can definitely make the assessment feel less anxiety inducing.

Thankyou for the information! I also always need a family to go places eg the grocery store , gp etc. as my slt is accompanying me in the assessment , am I okay to still have my family member with me during the assessment too?

I would assume so @Muezza321 😊 I can't see no reaaon why you can't bring another person for support.

Thankyou for the information. Is the wca as daunting as people describe. I’m reply nervous and have so much anxiety building up and it’s a few weeks away.

I'm afraid that is very hard to say as what one person finds very daunting, another may not so it just depends on the person!

Hopefully some of our members who have had a WCA will pop along soon and share their their experience with you.
