Inheritance and Claiming UC changing over to ESA
Hi I am to be in receipt of inheritance in the next few months which will take me over the 16k threshold I'm sure. I currently receive UC, housing element inc, I am on LCW and recently have been awarded PIP and have received 2 payments already.
I am wondering whether to apply for new style ESA. I work part-time and have done over the last 2 years aswell as being unwell and off work.
Any inheritance was to always go towards providing me with security of my own property one day and I am concerned as to how I can get on the property ladder before UC stops. I assume this isn't viable and my inheritance will be paying my landladys mortgage instead. I want you try and work full time to avoid all of this but I don't think my mental health can cope with this. Would it be obvious if i claimed ESA which I partially applied for before, again, would this be obvious I'm trying to avoid losing my benefits.

If you are entitled to claim New Style ESA (having made sufficient NI Contributions through working in the last few years) then there is nothing suspicious if you were to apply.
If your claim is successful you still wouldn't be entitled to UC until your capital goes below 16k.
