Do You Have A Piece Of Jewellery You Wear Everyday?💎💍

I was inspired by @Mr_Shoes_Tied discussion on watches and ended up thinking thought about the accessories we wear everyday.

I have a ring on my left middle finger that I wear everyday which is 98 years old so far! It was a present to my great grandmother on her 16th birthday and then she passed it down to her daughter who is my nan on her 16th birthday and so on!

I also have lots of little piercings in my ears (helix, conch, tragus etc) and a small nose ring that I always wear because I forget they're there most of the time😂

Do you have a piece of jewellery you wear everyday? And if so, does it have a sentimental reason or just because you like it?

I don't tend to wear jewellery while I'm at home, but if I'm going out I almost always wear gold hoop earrings. They almost feel like a uniform for me now and I feel a bit off if I forget to put them in!

If I'm feeling nervous about going somewhere I'll wear my great grandma's rings for comfort. But I get a bit scared I'll lose them while out and about so I don't do it too often! I love the idea of wearing sentimental jewellery and having things passed down. It's nice to feel like someone else is there with you even in a small way.

I wear my wedding ring which was my great grandma's, and my engagement ring which was my grandma's. I also have to wear stud earrings constantly because even after a night of not wearing any, my left ear piercing will heal up!

Nope, unless you count hearing aids in both ears.

Although as a Star Trek fan you could argue I have 3 ears, a left ear, right ear and a final front ear! gets coat

I don't really wear much jewellery. I have one ring that was given to my by my great aunt that I tend to wear more than anything. Wish I was a bit more girly sometimes 😅😊

I wear my wedding ring, engraved with the initials of my 7 dogs (3 passed away 2016-2017) and my mum's wedding ring since she passed away in Dec 2022. They look a little 'odd', one 18ct and one 9ct but I don't care about that. My 'latest' dog, Aloysius (2017) is not engraved yet as I can't get to the jeweller and who'll send it off anyway which I don't want to be without it. He understands I think 🤔 😊.

That's really sweet that you have honoured your dogs on your ring… Sorry to hear about the 3 that you've lost but it's a nice remembrance.

Aloysius is an interesting name. Is there a story behind it?

@Holly_Scope Aloysius came to me on 12th Dec 2017 from 'Preloved', he was called Bentley and was aged 7 months. This was his third home..... I named him after St. Aloysius as he appeared to be very gentle and sweet-natured and I didn't want him named after a car; he was in reality very strong-willed, to put it mildly 😂, and he was anything but saintly. It is St Aloysius day this Sunday, the 21st which we always celebrate. After I'd rehomed him the previous owner sent me 'photos of him with his other, live-in 'friend'... Aloysius apparently fought him and had to be crated as he was fierce, no matter the size of other dogs. He took c a year to settle in here and not fight, all 3.5kgs of him. He's very close to all of my other three now but thinks he's the 'top dog'. Snicket usually disabuses him of that notion 😁😂.

    A few teeth later....

Aww he is so adorable @Santosha12 - like butter wouldn’t melt! It’s often the case with smaller dogs isn’t it. They like to make themselves known lol. He seems to have settled in well and what a lovely thing to do to take in a preloved doggo!

So is it 4 you have now? I bet they keep you on your toes! Snicket is a cool name too. Is there a meaning for all of their names?

So sorry for my delayed reply @Holly_Scope. Yes, he's a proper wolf in yorkie's clothing! I'd never bought a dog off Preloved before (it's generally second-hand 'things') so that was a bit of an aberration on my part 😂 not that there's any regrets, the others, 3 shih tzus are brother and 2 younger sisters/same parents, so Aloysius is called the brother-in-law, his birthday cards etc say that so he must be ha ha.

When I had to move to my bungalow 'cos of my health in 2022 the housing association said I could only have two. Wasn't happening. Anyway all 4 were permitted as long as I don't 'replace' them. Luckily, I held out for a corner bungalow as 80ft+ garden so they're happy but can't walk out.

There is definitely a meaning for their names, I'll try and be concise 😂. Snicket came on 5th March 2016. He'd been born on 11th Jan 2016 (unknown to me at the time), Jack my much loved yorkie died aged 15 + on Tues 12th Jan and Matilda my golden shih tzu died unexpectedly at my vets, on her own, on Sat 16th Jan. So he was named after Lemony Snicket's, 'A series of unfortunate events'. I didn't know until recently that a Snicket is like a ginnel, a passageway between buildings. I haven't told him.

TBC Natalie-Tiffany and her sister Scarperlina

So my previous shih tzu Matilda was named after Natalie Portman who played Matilda in the film 'Leon' as she was very sweet but very feisty and courageous. My Matilda's favourite song was 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend' in which she sings about jewellers, including 'Tiffany's' - so Natalie-Tiffany was named as a nod, or tribute, to my Matilda.

Her sister, Scarperlina - I was going to have the boy but the boys sadly didn't survive. I was going to call the boy Scarper ( 'nicket & scarper) but because I got the girlie I thought she looked like a Scarper and I just added lina to feminise it. The girlies were born in Feb 2017 and came to us in the April. We still had Mr. Jones my 12.5 year old shih tzu who was very best friends with young Snicket then. Jonesy passed away on 9th August 2017 at home next to me in the night.

When I had Jonesy in May 2005 I was going to get the girlie but somebody else had her, she was going to be named Miss Jones, after Brigette Jones (singleton like me 🤣) so when I had the boy he was suited to be a Mr. Jones. Got some funny looks when out and about at that and being called in the vets but it did suit him. This was Mr. Jones in his 'dressing gown' ❤️💛💜...

Thanks for taking the time to respond @Santosha12 🤗

Oh wow! I just thought you meant he was preloved, not that you bought him from there! I’m shocked someone posted a pet on there but glad you stumbled across it and got him!

Aww yay! I’m glad you held out. The rules have recently changed about pets too thankfully. I used to see a lot of people on Facebook struggling to find accommodation because they had pets which was really sad.

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry to hear about Jack, Matilda and Mr. Jones (Jonesy). Mr Jones looks like such a cheeky pup in that picture. It must have been incredibly difficult it happening so unexpectedly too. That’s one thing that absolutely petrifies me about getting a dog as much as I desperately want one to give lots of love too!

I don’t think I’ve seen that film but love that song. Marilyn Monroe sang it in a film originally didn’t she? I really like the name Scarperlina, it’s really unique.

I'm SO glad I got Aloysius @Holly_Scope I fear he'd have had many more homes otherwise and, despite his shenanigans, he's very much loved and patience got results (I think he was just very unsure of himself and his place in this world), especially after two homes before me which must have been so unsettling for such a little mite. With Snicket everything's always had to be on his terms which is fine, and always has been, with me 🫠😊. I just work around them, despite their familial relationships they're all quite different in their needs and characters. That's what make them such a joy tbh, no day is boring !!

I remember well a young man on here, I won't say his name but I remember him well from c 2 yrs ago, but from Northern Ireland with his beloved cat Basil. Have often thought of him as he was potentially facing homelessness. I have always very much hoped and prayed that things turned out ok for him, and Basil. I was 'lucky' in that my housing association were possibly just too scared to argue with me as my dogs were going nowhere apart from with me and I wasn't even debating it with them/non negotiable etc! They got the measure of me basically. Two is absolutely no difference to four, imo. Well, it is when you're unwell but needs must.

The film was 'Gentlemen prefer Blondes' 1953; Matilda was a blondie ha ha. My Jack, Matilda and Jonesy all lived to their 'natural' age I guess. I wasn't going to get any more dogs but somehow I did. Four was not really in my plan. I am glad that my grief at their loss did not stop me having more. I did know I'd lose Jonesy Bones as he had a liver tumour but he was stable for the 18 months from diagnosis until he passed away and I'm glad for him that he went at home where he was very much loved and, most importantly, that he knew it. The demise of our pets evolves (in my experience) over time, naturally for the most part, and the many years of pure joy and love overrides that, if we let it. Please see Matilda attached...a truly beautiful little s

@Holly_Scope here's the video of 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend'....which Matilda absolutely loved.... forward to 2.48 seconds if needed .... my dogs (or I ?) were slightly mocked? for their songs and tape recordings which accompanied them to their vets stays and their Monday night parties at home for c 10 years. No regrets whatsoever as the songs for my current dogs keep them somewhat grounded and happy/secure. Each to their own but I an very highly recommend it!!

Sorry for the delay replying @Santosha12

Yes – You’re probably right about him being moved over again - you did an amazing thing looking after him and it sounds like he’s settled in well with the rest of the troop too 😊

I think I remember him too. Was there a picture of the cat in the garden on one of the posts? I hope he’s doing ok. I’m pleased the rules have changed now, but to think of all the people who’ve had to deal with this before is awful.

Of course. I’ve seen that film a while ago… must watch it again! Marilyn is so iconic. It makes me sad to think about her life. She seemed so fragile.

I guess you couldn’t ask for much more really than them living to their natural age. And I’m sure they’d want you to take other dogs under your wing and give them a better life. Matilda is super adorable! 😍
