Hi, my name is Julia247! How to overcome barriers with other parents?

Hi, I’m a Grandma, looking for ways to support my family with a child with AuDHD in mainstream. In addition to supporting their child, they face lack of understanding from other parents. Has anyone successfully overcome these barriers and educated the school community? The teachers are excellent, it is the wider, negative influence that is so distressing to them.

I think openness can help, as there is still a lot of ignorance and many unintentional misconceptions surrounding neurodivergence.

Is there a particular aspect of their behaviour or presentation/symptoms that other parents seem to be struggling with most?

Hi @Julia247 and a warm welcome to the community from me!

It is good to hear that your grandchild has excellent teachers in school but I am sorry to hear that they're having difficulty with some of the parents.

How old is your grandchild? If they're in Primary School then it may be worth contacting the SENCO and chatting about potentially being part of neurodiversity celebration week or other neurodiversity awareness days. The children may be able to take home what they have learnt to their parents.

Do you know what part of your child's AuDHD that the other parent's don't really understand?
