    That place looks gorgeous! Can see it's got some serious elevation in the 2nd few pictures. I love the bridge and history. Can't believe it was once the longest in the world ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

    The contractors cut corners with even the rivets, add that to Sir Thomas Bouch misunderstanding the windloading effect on the girders, not to mention trains travelling too fast, it was an accident waiting to happen.

    The Lord Provost of Dundee himself had reported the movement on the bridge, and in fact had stopped using his season ticket!

    When I was about 10yo, I used to get dragged around a local care home by my mum, allegedly I would cheer up the residents! One lady in her late 90s, she told me her own mother had witnessed the aftermath of the bridge collapsing. Most Dundonians only learned of the tragedy on the Monday morning, 29th December 1879. Since then, I have never thought about time in the same way. It really isn't that long ago.

    There are numerous areas of Dundee that are far from gorgeous! I suppose all cities could say the same.

    I'm glad I don't live there tbh, i'm 10 miles away. I lived and worked there before and when I was married. I'm back in the area I grew up.

    The Tay road bridge was opened in 1966, before that and for centuries, people crossed to and from Fife by ferries, known locally as "Fifies".

    The road bridge must still be under construction.

    The Royal Arch, built to commemorate Queen Victoria's 1844 visit fo Dundee. No rail bridge for her and Prince Albert, they would of course have travelled by sea. Like i mentioned before, the council demolished alot in the 1950s and1960s, this beautiful arch being just one victim. My dad remembers the public outcry in 1964.

    Yes, the city fathers were too eager to embrace change, but it's too late to realise that after the wrecking ball! The biggest insult is that nearly all the brutalist concrete monstrosities they preferred to foist upon us, they have been in turn demolished.

    In recent years alot of the waterfront and dock areas have been reclaimed for the enjoyment of the public and visitors. The ugly ring road is now a place of leisure and relaxation.

    The RRS Discovery, the ship used by Captain Robert Falcon Scott and Earnest Shackleton on the Discovery Expedition to the Antarctic 1901-1904. A must see for visitors. I have been aboard a number of times, but not recently, for obvious reasons.

    I haven't been to the V&A Dundee museum now alongside her, I don't really go anywhere these days. I just realised the V&A opened in 2018, time flies.
