Participants Needed for Spinal Cord Injury Research

Regenerating Presence: Immersive Nature Environments for Wellbeing and Place-Based Healing through XR

We are looking for adults living in the UK with spinal cord injury (SCI) to take part in a research study exploring body image and body appreciation following SCI.

Taking part will involve a short questionnaire, which should take around 5 to 10 minutes, two visual activities and two interviews lasting approximately 60 to 90 minutes each. These activities will give you the opportunity to reflect on and share your experiences, feelings and perspectives about your relationship with your body. What you share will help inform the future development of digital health tools intended to support psychological wellbeing following injury.

The study will take place entirely online, with the interviews held through Microsoft Teams. You do not need any previous artistic or creative experience to complete the visual activities, and the interviews will be relaxed and conversational.

Different accessibility arrangements and ways of taking part can be offered to help make your experience as comfortable and accessible as possible. You can discuss any support or adjustments you may need with the researcher. The pre-interview questionnaire will also ask whether there are any accommodations that would help you feel comfortable and supported during the study.

You can receive up to £100 in Love2shop vouchers as a thank you for your time and expertise. You will receive a £50 voucher after completing the first interview and a further £50 voucher after completing the final visual activity.

You can choose to withdraw from the study without giving a reason. Any vouchers you have already received before withdrawing will remain yours to keep.

Who can take part?

To take part, you must:

• be aged 18 or over;
• currently live in the UK;
• have lived experience of spinal cord injury;
• be able and willing to provide informed consent;
• have access to a phone, tablet or computer that you can use for the online activities.

Unfortunately, this study is not open to people who are currently receiving care in an acute hospital setting or taking part in inpatient rehabilitation.
