Transitioning from dla to pip advice please
good evening
I’m wondering if anyone could help me out with some advice, I am my child’s appointee and they have a telephone assessment but he will not speak to them on the phone my question is, am I okay to lead the full call.
a bit of back story they have ASD and anxiety in the claim I have sent a lot of evidence from low school attendance and how alternative arrangement had to be made at school in final year due to not being able to cope in mainstream classroom due to huge changes in routines and exams had to sit their exam in a smaller setting. I take and collect them to school. A barber comes to the house to cut hair as they can’t cope in a barbers setting. Takes medication for anxiety prof sent also I cook all food pass medication pass clothes ensure everything is clean before they touch anything. Can’t communicate with unfamiliar adults can’t navigate a journey even a familiar route I have to be with them. I have to monitor sleeping patterns as will stay awake until extremely late sometimes won’t sleep at all. Doesn’t have a social network has only had one close friend from being 2 up to present. My questions are based on all this evidence sent couldn’t be mainly paper based and just a call to go over things or not? And will they accept myself leading the call
Thenk you so much if you’ve read this post to the end

Hi @Pearl4 and a warm welcome to the community from me!
It sounds like you have already sent them a lot of evidence which is great. The assessment is a way for the assessor to just go over what you have said in the form in a bit more detail. Here is some more information on what to expect in a pip assessment that I hope will be helpful😊.
You should be okay to talk to the assessor instead of your son as long as your son is on the phonecall with you and he gives his consent. How are you feeling about it all?1 -
You can request a paper based assessment, but the health assessment agency doesn't have to agree.

I was kind of hoping they are looking at it like a paper based but I’m unsure as I’ve never claimed pip before so it’s all new to us I don’t know how long the call will be either it’s a very nerve wrecking experience for us all isn’t it I just don’t want to mess anything up for him

With paper based, sometimes they call for further information, sometimes they don't.
This call would be unscheduled, so if you've a phone appointment then it wouldn't be for a paper based assessment.

They called me 2 weeks ago but I missed the call I did think it was strange they were calling

Okay so it sounds like a paper based assessment was attempted, and without speaking to you they haven't got enough information to make a decision, so a normal assessment has been booked.

oh okay I did think this but wasn’t sure, do you think it will be a brief call then or not. Sorry for so many questions

It’s really hard to say how long it will take @Pearl4 as every assessment is unique and depends on what you shared in your form and what they need to go over.
If you have a copy of your completed PIP form, reading back through it beforehand can be really helpful. It’s a good way to refresh your memory on the key areas they’ll likely ask about which will hopefully help settle some of those nerves😊.
Is there anything that usually helps comfort you when you're feeling anxious that you could do on the day?0 -
hi
I’m only nervous I’m not going to get everything across to them like this is everyday life so explaining is the easy part it’s just if I don’t get things across properly is what’s worrying me. I just want this assessment done with and hope for the best and hope they’ll accept me leading the full call
