Hi all I joined a few days ago. I'm Mike 62 with two sons. I've had mild cp on my left side since birth, foreceps I think, giving drop foot and about 12mm (1/2 inch) shorter leg. But I have been able to be full time employed.

    Hi @Maimarsh

    Good Afternoon & Welcome.!!!!

I am one of the Community Champion’s here at Scope.

I’m very very sorry to hear about the loss of your partner.

We have got some great info/advice on Benefit’s.

I would be more than happy in going through it with you if that would be helpful????

There is a “Benefit Calculator” that will give you a good idea of what “Benefits” are available for you at present.

Please please let me know if this will be okay & we can get the “ball rolling” straightaway.

    Hi, I’m a Mum of a 17yr old daughter. I have many disabilities/problems.
My G.P is injecting my knee on the 16th Dec & I’m not looking forward to it - I think it’s either a cortisone injection or a steroid ( not sure )
I’d love to hear from anyone who has had this done & what to expect afterwards please ?
    Many Thanks

    Hi, mamof1,
Although I  have not  had injections in my knee I have had ultrasound  guided injections to the insides of my feet. Unfortunately it didn't work. The pain was really bad when the needles were inserted and wiggled around to find the exact position to inject. I just bit on my fist. I had anasthetic and cortisone given together.
I don't think it will be that bad though having the injections in your knees because the skin is thicker.
    Good luck with the treatment.

Hi, I am new to this site. I am a single parent /carer to my adult disabled son.
Not very tech minded, so not even sure if I am posting in the correct introductions part?
I did try to make another post asking for help with benefits.
I titled it... What benefits am I entitled to.
Not even sure where that post has gone and whether I will be notified of any replies?

    Hi @steve51
Another member kindly sent me a link to another benefits calculator.
It looks like I will basically be getting the same amount as I was when receiving income support.
Except for the fact I will now be entitled to the extra £20 per week due to the covid19, which is a nice bonus.

Would you know if there is anywhere on this site that I could get help concerning care charges?
My son has been assessed and for some reason I had an email saying his care charge would be £50 per week. I called and explained I thought this was wrong and it was then reduced to £25 per week, which I feel is still wrong as they have not taken into account the cleaning, washing, extra heating, water etc. He has never paid care charges in the past and his circumstances have not changed in years.
My son claims P.I.P. and U/C
    Thank you in advance

    @steve51,

    Thank you

I have just found out that the care finance team did not take into account any DRE (Disability related expenditures)
I have now been asked to send in proof of purchase of any extra bedding, clothes, shoes etc, which unfortunately I can not do as I find it difficult to shop with my son and I am not very tech minded, so I will normally withdraw money from our joint account and then pay my daughter for what she has ordered online or when she visits Ikea and buys bedding or a bed etc.
It was never ever mentioned to me in the past that I had to keep every receipt/proof of purchase when buying for my son.
I shall definitely keep all receipts from now on.

Just another query that someone on here maybe able to help me with.

My son has no mental capacity (aged 23) He also has challenging behaviours and very high sensory needs.
The problem I am having, or rather he has is that he constantly destroys/breaks things like beds, blinds, light switches, door handles, toilet seats. The list is never ending and as you can imagine is costing a fortune in repair bills or replacing.
Would anyone know if there is any kind of financial help that I can get to help towards repair bills, replacements?
I was told a few years ago by his disability social worker that if he had challenging behaviours then he would be allowed a certain amount from his personal budget for this, and that they would assess him for this on his next annual assessment . The social worker in question then left and each year when I mention it, I just seem to get brushed off.

    Thank you
