Have just become a Support Worker for an 18 old man with Cerebral Palsy. Looking for ways to keep him occupied and engaged in things
rather than just sat in front of TV.

Hello @richardsw and welcome to our online community.  I'm glad you found us.

I think it's important to speak with the man you are now support worker for to ask what he would like to do when you are with him.  You are there to help him live an independent life and I am sure he has many ambitions, interests and hobbies that you could come up with a plan for.  Have you spoke to him about it?

    Hi @richardsw
Just to say...I agree with Cher, ask him what he'd like to be doing.
Always had problems when my son went out with support workers as to he wanted to sit in a cafe and watch the world go by but the support worker had shopping to do...one even took him to the job centre so he could find a new job which I thought a tad insensitive to say the least!
The thing is, being e enthusiastic and wanting to broaden someone's horizons is great, but if your client just wants to watch telly he's entitled to do just that!

    Hi @richardsw
Thanks for getting in touch. What sort of things is the person you support interested in? That would be the first question. Is he not keen on engaging in other activities?

Another thing....bare in mind the costs of activities...
The care company my son was with kept suggesting days out to sea world and the zoo ect.
It's as if they think anyone getting dla or pip is minted...my son was on middle care and no mobility at the time so twice weekly visits to theme
parks etc, baring in mind you had to pay for any expenses for the support worker were not an option...other then for the odd treat.
Not that my son ever wanted to do this as he hated crowds and noise.
