Hi is there a 9 month ignore grace period universal credit receiving inheritance over £16.000 before effects benefits? I have seen one article saying this . But trying to confirm if this is correct. Currently on pip and new style eas universal credit.

No, there's no disregard of any inheritance for any means tested benefits. Not sure where exactly you read it to but you've misunderstood it.Once the money goes into your bank you will need to report the changes. Savings of more than £16,000 means there's no entitlement to any means tested benefits. If you're claiming council tax reduction you also need to report the changes to your local Authority and then this benefit will end.

Thanks you. This was what I was reading. Doubt it was correct -
I have no idea where exactly that screenshot is from but it's definitely not correct. Inheritance is not disregarded for any length of time.

One thing to add, if you have any debt, you can pay this off without any issues when claiming UC and it won't be treated as deprivation of capital.Although if you're claiming council tax reduction then paying off debt unless it's immediately repayable could be treated as deprivation of capital. Also some local authorities have a maximum savings limit of £6,000 before entitled to the CTR ends. If you're claiming single person discount this isn't affected by capital.
